Laura Buteau and Morena Suarez experienced two completely opposite matches during their participation in the FIP Star tournament. After a encouraging victory in the first round, the Franco-Argentinian duo encountered serious difficulties against the No. 5 seeded pair, Ferreyra/Valenzuela.
A clear defeat
Last night, Buteau (349) and Suarez (ARG – 493) won a great victory against Eva Marcus and Estela Dominguez Diaz, opponents ranked well below them. However, the second round was much less favorable to them. They faced the pair Ferreyra (ARG – 155) / Valenzuela (ARG – 131), who quickly took control of the match. The final result was clear: 6/1 6/0.
The Argentines, accustomed to the tables and qualifications of Premier Padel, came to the tournament to gain confidence. It's probably done since they quickly put Buteau/Suarez in difficulty. The duo suffered five breaks, four of which were made during puntos de oro where they failed to convert the chances (0/4).
Facing a dominant pair, Morena Suarez had difficulty regaining her sensations, while Laura Buteau tried to maintain a correct level of play without trying to overplay to compensate for the imbalance between the two pairs.
They failed to shake up their opponents
The defeat of Buteau and Suarez, although severe, was predictable. Laura Buteau commented on the performance: “ We failed to give ourselves the means to play the part needed to shake up a pair of this ilk. We lacked physique, attitude and fighting spirit. Some good sequences in the padel and the game but at this level it is not only played on the “baballe” and many other professional parameters of involvement must be taken into account: they were not applied on our side today. Back to the fight and to work to achieve this first FIP performance of the season, in line with the many already achieved in France! »
