Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea have hit hard by winning the final of the Cancún P2 face Marta Ortega and Sofia Araújo (6/3 6/1). With this second consecutive title, after their coronation at Gijón, the Spanish-Argentine pair confirms its ambition: to go dethrone Ariana Sánchez and Paula Josemaría at the top of women's padel.
A tournament controlled from start to finish
Even before this final, Triay and Brea were in impressive formThey reached the final. without having conceded a single set in the tournament, with only 12 games lostTheir solidity on the field was beyond doubt, and they once again demonstrated why they are today the main rivals of the world number 1s.
In front of them, Ortega and Araújo had solid arguments. The Spanish-Portuguese pair remained on a major victory in the semi-final against Sánchez and Josemaría, an exploit which allowed them to reach the final with the hope of a third title in Premier Padel, after those of Genoa and Newgiza in 2024. Moreover, Araújo had a perfect record in Mexico, always reaching the final on the three tournaments she had played there.
A first set hooked... until the tipping point
The final started well for Ortega and Araújo, who took the first break of the match third game. An ideal start which suggested a close match, especially since Marta Ortega is used to outdoor tournaments, with six finals out of eight played in these conditions.
But the reaction of Triay and Brea was not long in coming. More aggressive on important points, they immediately stuck to the score, before chaining a second decisive service breakTheir domination was total at the end of the first set, which ended in 41 minutes with the score at 6/3.
A second one-sided set
After coaching break, Carlos Pozzoni, Marta and Sofia's coach, tried to restart the machine, asking for more taking initiative and more aggressive volleys.
But on the ground, Triay and Brea quickly killed the suspense. Immediate break on the first game, then constant pressure on the opposing engagements allowed the players to Rodri Ovide and Jorge Martinez to never let their rivals breathe. A new break in the fifth game definitively sealed the fate of the match, with a 6/1 clear and without appeal.

Triay and Brea confirm their rise to power
With this second title of the season, Gemma Triay and Delfina Brea display nice statistics:
- 9 titles each on the circuit Premier Padel, confirming their consistency at the highest level.
- Delfi Brea is now the most successful player in P2 (7 titles), and holds the record of 4 consecutive tournaments won in this category.
- Gemma Triay continues to add to her list of achievements, with her 9th title in Premier Padel and his 17th final played.
To Ortega and Araújo, the disappointment is there, but their performance at Cancun remains encouragingThey have proven that they can beat the world number 1s, and despite the defeat, they remain a pair dangerous for the rest of the season.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
