The competitive instinct sometimes pushes athletes to push themselves beyond what is reasonable. But in some cases, this desire to win can turn against their own health. This is what happened to Carmen Castillon, a Spanish professional player, who had to be hospitalized due to clots in the lungs.

It all started during the FIP Silver of Timisoara, in Romania, which she contested alongside the Frenchwoman Carla Toully. Despite persistent pain from the first rounds in particular at the level of the chest and ribs, as well as difficulty breathing, the player continued to play. They reached the semifinals, losing only after a close third set.

"Since Thursday, I've had a lot of pain in my ribs and chest, and I've had a lot of difficulty breathing," the Malaga native explained on her social media. And despite everything, she continued to fight on the court: "It's incredible how I threw myself at every ball, even with the pain."

But upon his return to Spain, his condition worsened and she is admitted to the hospital, where examinations reveal pulmonary thrombosis, responsible for small heart attacks in the lungs. According to her, the many air travel, common on the international circuit, could be a potential cause of this pathology. A week after his hospitalization, Carmen is still being cared for, his participation in the Italy Major is obviously cancelled.

This is not the first time that health has slowed Carmen Castillón's progress. In 2021, she already suffered a Severe COVID, aggravated by pharyngitis, which had also kept her off the field for several weeks.

His partner, the legendary Carolina Navarro, immediately dedicated his first victory to him Foro Italico, next to Carla Toully. Deeply moved, the Swedish-Spanish woman said:
“You’re fighting like a champion, and we’re thinking about you every moment here. We’re pushing for you every day. You’re going to make it through this, because you’re a true fighter.”

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
