Esther Butcher (34) et Melania Merino (40) perfectly seized their chance to secure a quarter-final at Valladolid P2, against Orsi / Rodriguez: 6/3 2/6 6/2. This is the first quarter-final as a pair for these two players (Esther Carnicero had played one in Doha with Ksenia Sharifova).

Carolina Orsi and Nuria Rodriguez seemed to be the big favourites for the match. The Italian-Spanish pair were ranked higher but were also coming out ofa very good match against the 7th seed of the tournament, Vero Virseda et Zazu Osoro.

However, Esther Carnicero and Melania Merino were the ones who created the most opportunities throughout the match. In total, they had 11 break points (for 3 converts). On the other side of the track, Orsi and Rodriguez only had 4 (including three in the second round). The outsiders clearly took the game into their own hands to bring down Carolina Orsi and Nuria Rodriguez.

This is the first surprise of the day in Valladolid. In the quarter-finals, they will play the winners of the Delfi Brea / Andrea Ustero match against Lara Arruabarrena / Julia Polo Bautista.

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was her brother who one day told her to accompany him to a padel court, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the retransmission of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
