We will try to wring the neck definitively with the rumors concerning these famous “sandless” or more precisely “silica-free” terrains.

The latest generation carpets that can be seen popping up all over Europe seem totally devoid of silica. Yet, we guarantee you there are. The technique used and the dosage are just totally different.

One of the representatives of French Padel The shop, the President of My Padel Store, Manu Garcia, returned to this theme with all the seriousness we know it:

New Mondo WPT carpet

By definition, there are no “sandless” carpets.

Carpets have to have sand. Mondo SUPERCOURT (WPT) carpet has between 1,6 tons and 2 tons of sand, whereas a “sandy” pitch must have 3 tons of sand.

What makes the difference is that the carpets that we could call “Without visible sand” have a wavy monofilament pile that allows the sand to stay in place and not rise to the surface.

The effect is better on these carpets but they are slower.

So-called “sanded” carpets are faster because the pile is different and because there is more sand too.

Then there is the question of the lifespan ...

And the characteristics will change depending on the temperature, humidity ... For example, the carpet will expand depending on the temperature.
