Le  Asunción P2  clearly marked a turning point in this 2026 season of Premier PadelBetween surprises, big fights and very high-level finals, the Paraguayan tournament confirmed one thing above all: the fights for the number 1 world ranking are more open than ever, both for men and women.

Chingotto and Galán are getting some fresh air at Race

At men's,  Fede Chingotto and Ale Galán  emerge as the big winners of the week.

Already leaders in the  Race 2026  Before the tournament, Jorge Martinez's men had seen  Coello and Tapia  to close the gap after their semi-final defeat at Brussels P2. But thanks to their victory in the final in Asunción against the world number 1, they now regain a lead of nearly:
400 points in the Race .

A significant success in accounting terms, but above all, a psychological one.

Because now, a trend is clearly beginning to emerge:
Chingotto and Galán seem to have gained the upper hand over Coello and Tapia .

The Spanish and Argentinians are now in the lead:
 3-1 in head-to-head matches this season .

And above all, they give the impression of having become much stronger in the big matches.

The FIP rankings remain locked down.

Despite this victory, the FIP ranking remains largely dominated by  Coello and Tapia .

The reason is simple:
Chingotto and Galán were defending their title won last year in Asunción .

So they didn't actually gain any additional points.

Conversely, Coello and Tapia improved on their 2025 result where they were stopped in the quarter-finals.

But despite this, the gap remains enormous:
Nearly 6000 points still separate the two pairs .

A chasm primarily linked to the Qatari Major.

The next major turning point could come at:
 Buenos Aires ,

where Coello and Tapia are defending their title and will be under pressure.

Goñi, De Pascual and Alonso continue to climb

Behind the big names, several youngsters continue their rise.

 Aimar Goñi still impresses

After his semi-final in Asunción, the Spaniard is climbing:  44th in the world .

He has virtually no points to defend before Bordeaux and could still improve significantly.

Very good progress also for:

  •  Alonso Rodriguez  : +10 places (63rd)
  •  Juan Ignacio De Pascual  : +6 places (83rd)

Players who are fully enjoying their impressive runs in Paraguay.

Bea Gonzalez and Paula Josemaría new leaders of the Race

Among women, the momentum has been completely revived.

Thanks to their victory in the final against  Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea ,  Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez  become:  the new number 1 contenders for Race 2026 .

A great performance when you remember their more complicated start to the season.

The Spanish women have now followed up with:  four consecutive titles ,

and especially :  four consecutive victories in the final against Triay and Brea .

A real psychological advantage is beginning to emerge.

 Only 40 points apart

Nevertheless, the battle remains completely open.

To the Race:  Only 40 points separate the two best pairs in the world .

A tiny gap before:

  • le  Buenos Aires P1
  • and especially the  Major of Rome

where Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea will have a lot of points to defend.

The FIP women's ranking remains unchanged.

As with the men, the official FIP women's ranking remains virtually unchanged at the top.

Thanks to their huge lead accumulated particularly at the Qatar Major,  Triay and Brea  still keep:
 nearly 6000 points ahead .

But the current trend is clearly in favor of:
Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez ,

who seem to be the most confident pair on the women's circuit today.

One thing is sure:  The war for the world throne is totally reignited before the Argentine tour and the Major of Rome.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
