After four days of competition, the Intercontinental Cup Padel of Dakhla ended in apotheosis. Five years after the last edition, the pearl of the Sahara was finally able to play padel again.

The one who is most satisfied with it is Claude Baigts, president of the European Association of Football Clubs Padel and organizer of the Intercontinental Cup Padel. He returned to this second edition, crowned with success, and to the future of this competition !

Dakhla: the long-awaited return of padel

“It's always a little sad to reach the end because we know that people are going to separate to return to their continent. For this second edition, I remind you, there was three continents represented.

We were very happy because we saw that the team in place Sahara Events always had the sacred fire to work miracles…: install a runway when we are more than 2.000 kilometers from the Mediterranean, which is much more complicated. However, they achieved the feat of putting this land in a public square, in a working-class neighborhood.

This made it possible to have around fifty children, who could be introduced to the practice of padel with Orven from Valencia, who had brought t-shirts and rackets for the little ones. This is the positive side: Keeping the flame of padel alive after five years.

A competition to promote padel

Another important point: the conference at the Dakhla Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This made it possible to demonstrate that Padel can become the second sport, in Dakhla, behind kitesurfing, which brings tourists from all over the world. The hoteliers who were present and the president of the Chamber of Commerce were very positive.

We met two hoteliers who informed us that they had plans to set up padel courts. For our part, we are trying to tell them that it is better to come together to create a club and that they can then send their clients.

Another objective: we wanted to demonstrate to elected officials and city leaders that it was possible, each year, to compete and so that she can grow a little more. I think we succeeded and the president of the region was very happy. He even kicked the ball with a representative from Kenya, who was visiting the city. She also declared that it was necessary that she introduces padel to Kenya.

The future of the Intercontinental Padel Cup

The future here, from 2025, is a cut that will experience a change. We will invite 16 business leaders, always representing different countries… 16 journalists et 16 players “pros", to organize pro-ams, which have already participated in 2019 or 2024 in the first editions. This is the project.

From now on, we will have to organize it and make it grow. We must set the date when International Club Cup Padel à Malaga, 3 6 in October. "
