In the first part of the interview, Claude Baigts, organizer of the Intercontinental Cup Padel in Dakhla, told us about the success of this second edition.

Now, he returns to the future tournaments and projects of the European Association of Clubs. Padel. One thing is certain, the schedule promises to be very busy once again for the AECP, which will sail all over the world!

The International Club Cup Padel 2024

This International Club Cup Padel was initiated, with Padel Magazine, very early since we are in the 7th year of existence. Three years for the International Cup but, before that, there was the European Cup for four years. The latter passed on the baton because we had more and more clubs from South America, Asia and Africa responding.

The competition will take place this year in the province of Malaga, in Alhaurín de la Torre, from October 3 to 6, and we are waiting 24 selections.

Each selection is made up of four men, two women and a coach. This year there will be a very strong participation from Oceania with four clubs representing Papeete and the surrounding areas of Tahiti.

The Pacific Cup in 2025

Alain Siu, the president of the Phénix club in Tahiti, which started with two tracks three years ago, and who has new today and which is in the middle of work to add five covered courts, will have sufficient facilities for us to be able to welcome, normally in 2025, clubs from the Pacific Rim.

The Pacific is vast since we go from Japan to China, via Peru and Chile. We will try, in 2025, to bring together six selections from six different countries. The goal will be to grow each year as we did with the International Club Cup. Padel. In terms of the formula, it will normally be the same as for the International Cup but we will, most certainly, add a pairwise table.

In terms of organization, we now have the chance to to be able to rely on local professional organizations. In Dakhla, it is Sahara Event, with Omar and Mouna El Alaoui. They are used to doing cultural events, with businesses or even in sport.

Mouna and Omar El Alaoui

We, in the end, do not manage “which” the sports part and the communication part upstream so that people come. In Tahiti, we will do the same thing with a small difference because the trip lasts a minimum of nine hours. We will find a competition that will last 4 or 5 days but with a few days of tourism on Tahiti and the surrounding islands. It's a little different, for once, but here again, we are going to rely on the people in Tahiti who have all the skills for that.

Other upcoming projects

Finally, regarding the International Club Cup Padel, I don't know if we will be on the Costa del Sol again in 2025. That will be five times and there are certain countries that would be interested in welcoming us: Senegal, Morocco, but we can also dream of Asia.

Either way, for this to be possible you need sunshine, a very close international airport and a local company capable of handling all the logistics.

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
