We were lucky to be able to interview Laura Clergue. She looks back on a rather successful 2019 year and attacks 2020 with new objectives.

After a successful 2017 which propelled it to 46th place in the WPT ranking, Laura Clergue had a more delicate season in 2018, forcing her to return to Previa in 2019. Which did not deter her.

Padel Magazine : First of all, are you satisfied with your 2019 year?

Laura Clergue: I am generally very satisfied with my 2019 year. I had made the decision to make many changes at the beginning of 2019 because I needed a renewal. Changes that have done me a lot of good!

PM : Can you tell us a little bit about these changes that you have made?

LC: We will say that I changed everything compared to 2018! I started 2019 with a new trainer, a new physical trainer, and I even changed apartments! In parallel, I also started mental work with Jean Michel Pequery.

PM : What influence have these new coaches had on your game?

LC:  When I started training with Ana Grandes and Horacio Alvarez Clements, we first spent many months working on my technique, theépurifying to the maximum, then on the tactical part by making evolve my game for rendre stronger in defense while finding someaggressiveness with the net. As to work with Jean-Mi, it allowed me to have more trust me.

PM : What about the partner?

LC: Start May 2019, I have cross Barbara Las's Road Heras, with whom I teamed up for the rest of the year. NOTwe complemented each other very well in the field eyou created a real team.

PM : In the end, all the ingredients were there to make a great year!

LC: Exactly: more technical and tactical resources, confidence, a stable teammate. And logically, the results have arrived, one after the other, an entry in the final table, two eighthss from final to challenger, and several wins against players top50 I never had managed to beat before! I also and above all learned to take pleasure in the field and it was by far the most important. To end this year 2019 in style, a nice result at the European championships, with a team gold medal and a semi final at the Open tournament with Léa Godallier, with which we showed a good level of play and a bond on the field allowing us to beat the seeded 3 of the table!

PM : Léa Godallier who is your new partner ?!

LC: Yes, we decided Lea and moi to join forces both on the French circuit and on the Spanish circuit pfor this 2020 season.

PM : A choice that came naturally after the European Championships?

LC: Yes, it was essential for me to find a permanent teammate, someone I trust and with whom a good projection was possible. The European Championships have shown us that we can play well together. In addition we are both in Madrid, it makes things easier!

PM : So you train together? Do you have the same coaches?

LC: Léa trains with Jorge de Benito, and I with Anita Grandes, but we all train together as soon as possible. It is important to know your teammate, know what moves she will player, but also how she will react to such and such a situation. This requires training together.

PM: A year 2020 which promises to be promising and busy?

LC: We are both working hard so the results should follow! A very busy year!  We will play all of the WPT tournaments as well as a maximum of tournaments on the French circuit, tournaments on the Madrid circuit and on the international circuit when our schedule allows. We will also have to add the World Cup, if we are lucky enough to be selected again for the French team. It will be important to manage this schedule and our rest phases well, because a season padel is very long!

PM : Finally, Franck Binisti asks if you could offer us a little gossip about your life or the world of padel ?

LC: I have lots crispy info but cknow me very bad Frank, i am not going bthrow here my crush of the moment, nor all the little stories of heart " of the circuit! Professional secrecy requires! Maybe for a next ITW who knows! In any case a big thanks à Padel May for everything you do for our sport!

PM : Thank you and good luck for the season!
