There will forever be a BEFORE and an AFTER Premier Padel P1 of Mar del Plata 2024! Because even if we are going to take stock, as always, of this Argentine episode, I will admit it to you, I still had a very, very heavy pang in my heart when I saw the master Fernando Belasteguin, known as Bela, leave this central track after this long and magnificent moment with his family and friends. Because yes in front of his audience, his country, the King said goodbye to competition on Argentinian soil, he who will finish the season this Premier Padel before permanently withdrawing from padel professional after almost 30 years on the slopes!

From Alejandro Lasaigues (who presented him with his trophy) to Bela via Juan Martin Diaz, Gaby Reca, Willy Lahoz and others Roberto Gattiker or Hernan “Bebe” Auguste, these are also my last 35 years spent in the padel that I saw parade on Sunday evening and you can believe me, it's not nothing!!!

In short, after this sequence of global emotion and a little personal too… time for the Mar del Plata tournament! As usual, “Coach Zorrus” offers us his analysis of the tournament.

The red card

Well you know what, there was no event worthy of showing the red card during this Premier Padel in Argentina on the lands of King Bela!

The Flops

  1. Paquito and Lebron eliminated in the 1/8th final: it's ugly but will it last? Not so sure !
  2. We lost our “Frenchies” again in the qualifiers! I am well placed to know how difficult it is but I believe in it: go Blues!
  3. Ortega / Virseda, defeat in the quarter-final: it already feels like the end of a story, we just have to wait for “Martita” to find another partner…

  1. The Nieto / Sanz pair in the quarter-finals after eliminating Lebron / Paquito.
  2. The Alonso / Ustero pair in the semi-final: Pablo Ayma's protégés are starting to have an appetite!
  3. Delfi Brea and Bea Gonzalez: a crazy comeback in the semi-final and a crazy final, what a tournament!

The finals movie

For the ladies, a final between the 1st and 2nd seeds with an opposition that was expected to be hot due to the presence of the Argentinian Delfi Brea. And the least we can say is that we were not disappointed! After a first set dominated in a rather hasty manner, Ari and Paula momentarily lost track of the match and conceded the second set, before finally winning in the third set! We can think that the semi-final the day before, won in 3h28, left its mark on Delfi and Béa. Looking forward to revenge… in Chile?

For the gentlemen, we take the same ones and start again! The final will keep all its promises with a first set which will turn to the advantage of the numbers 1. And then combining the flight of the “Chingalan” machine and certainly also the fatigue due to the virus caught by the pair Coello / Tapia, the following two sets will be to the advantage of his opponents of the day. But thank you to the players because what a match from the four... Here we are: the Chingotto / Galan pair, “Chingalan” can no longer hide and wants to take pride of place on the padel worldwide!

And now ¡Vamos a Chile!
