There will be no second surprise at  Brussels P2 After the unexpected release of  Chingotto / Galan the world number 1  Coello / Tapia  held their rank against  Stupaczuk / Yanguas  (7/5 6/2). A clear victory on the scoreboard, but with a first set much more contested than the final result suggests.

A tight first set… but controlled in the key moments

Le  7/5  perfectly reflects the shape of the sleeve.
The figures show a close duel, but slightly in favor of  Coello / Tapia  :

  •  58% of points earned  compared to 42%
  •  74% of points won behind the first serve  (compared to 45%)
  •  55% of points won on first-serve returns a very strong indicator

Opposite,  Stupa / Yanguas  However, they were effective in certain sequences:

  •  50% of break points converted
  • A better success rate on  second ball (88%)

Coello/Tapia dominated on the first balls , whether serving or returning, which allowed them to gain the upper hand in the tiebreaks.

A second one-sided set

In the second round ( 6/2 ), the match clearly shifts:

  •  60% of points earned  for Coello / Tapia
  •  59% of points won on first serve returns
  •  67% on second ball return , compared to 0% for their opponents

It's simple :  Stupa/Yanguas no longer existed in the second round. .

Even though both pairs display  100% break point conversion The difference comes from the volume of opportunities and, above all, the constant pressure exerted by the number 1s.

A final reminiscent of Cancún

For the men, it's now time for a highly anticipated match:  Coello / Tapia vs Lebrón / Augsburger

A duel that inevitably brings to mind the  Cancun P2 where the world number 1 players had prevailed after a huge battle:  6/7(5) 6/3 7/5 .  Lebrón / Augsburger had come very close to achieving the feat.

In this context, a question clearly arises:  Can they go all the way this time?
