A padel court has been installed  directly onto an ice rink , four professional ice hockey players and  Delfi Brea  as a luxury advisor: in Salzburg, padel has undergone a rather unusual crossover with the  Coldest Court .

Organized at the  Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy Salzburg The experiment pitted players from the EC Red Bull Salzburg  to those of the EHC Red Bull Munich For the occasion, sticks gave way to rackets, but the hockey players remained on their preferred playing field: the ice.

Salzburg versus Munich, racket in hand

On the one hand,  Luca Auer and Peter Hochkofler , representatives of Salzburg. On the other side,  Philipp Krening and Veit Oswald , under the colors of Munich.

While playing padel on an ice rink was obviously a first, the sport was not unfamiliar to the four hockey players.  regularly play padel , particularly in the context of their athletic preparation.

One detail that gives more meaning to the experience: it wasn't simply a matter of placing four hockey players with a racket in their hands for the purposes of a video.

Before the match, several challenges allowed them to get their bearings in what were necessarily unusual conditions.

Delfi Brea as a luxury coach

To prepare for this duel, the four players were also able to count on a specialist:  Delfi Brea , one of the great figures of the circuit Premier Padel.

Argentina gave them some advice before the match, with a rather unique challenge: to transpose the fundamentals of padel onto a surface where the hockey players have, for once, much more experience than they do.

The event was held with  Premier Padel and Red Bull , with the participation of  Bullpadel , who supplied the snowshoes, of  Wilson  for the balls and the  International Federation of Padel (FIP) , which provided the official referee for the match.

Qualities common to hockey and padel

Beyond the spectacular aspect of the setting, the experience highlights several bridges between the two disciplines.

Responsiveness, anticipation, coordination with partners, and speed of decision-making  are essential in both hockey and padel. Qualities that the four players were able to exploit once the match began.

"We are obviously very comfortable playing on the ice, but normally we have hockey sticks in our hands, not padel rackets," he joked.  Peter Hochkofler who acknowledges that the competitive spirit quickly took over against the Munich players.

And in this game, home advantage may have played a role.

Salzburg wins the Coldest Court

Luca Auer and Peter Hochkofler ultimately prevailed.  against Philipp Krening and Veit Oswald, allowing Salzburg to win this first Coldest Court at home.

A defeat that clearly hasn't dampened Munich's ambitions. Veit Oswald has already mentioned the idea of a rematch, also highlighting the similarities between the two sports, particularly in the need for  react quickly and communicate constantly with your partner .

Coldest Court: when padel is played… on an ice rink

Beyond the result, this Coldest Court also illustrates the place padel has taken in the world of other top athletes. For these four professional hockey players, the sport is no longer just a hobby:  It's already part of their training routine. .

After padel on a traditional court, on temporary courts set up in prestigious or unusual locations, the next step was to think about ice. And now it's a reality.
