World number 1, Arturo Coello et Agustín Tapia, joined forces in 2023 and had a very successful start. The duo quickly established themselves on the World Padel Tour, which later became the circuit Premier PadelSince their collaboration, they have won 32 titles, including 3 this season.
But which teams managed to create a surprise by beating the leaders of the classification?
Ale Galán, a regular rival
Ale Galán, who held the world number 1 spot from 2020 to 2022 alongside Juan Lebrón, ceded his crown to Wall et Coello in 2023, although he has beaten this pair 4 times with Lebrón.
Since March 2024, it has been evolving with Fede ChingottoHis goal is clear: to regain the world number one spot alongside the Argentinian. Despite a record of 12 wins to 5 in favor of Tapia / Coello, the pair Galan / Chingotto is the one that has beaten them most often, with 5 successes.
Gallant even has a 10th victory against the number 1, obtained during theValencia Open 2023 with Jon sanz, in the absence of LebrónIn the semi-final, the two Spaniards won a very close three-set match.
“Los Superpibes”: Stupaczuk / Di Nenno
Argentines Franco Stupaczuk et Martín Di Nenno, nicknamed the supers, have beaten number 1s 4 times.
In 2023, the pair Stupa / Di Nenno was considered the second best in the world, the main challenger of the duo Tapia / Coello. After a remarkable start to the season by the number 1s with 13 titles (10 on the WPT and 3 on Premier Padel), the Argentinians reversed the dynamic somewhat by winning the Master of Madrid And the one of Valladolid, in the final against Tapia / Coello.
Nieto / Sanz, the surprise of the Master Final
When for his Final Master from Barcelona last December, Coki Nieto et Jon sanz created a sensation. While Tapia / Coello had two match points in the second set, Nieto / Sanz came back for to impose 7/5 6/3. An unexpected turnaround given the duo's dominance in 2024 with 14 titles and 47 consecutive victories.

This season
Cardona / Augsburger, feared
In the round of 16 of the Santiago P1, Coello / Tapia fell in front of paul cardona et Leo Augsburg, a young and promising duo. Taking advantage of the diminished physical condition of Wall (right hand injury) and fast playing conditions, favoring their aggressive and powerful style, Cardona / Augsburger offered themselves one of their greatest victories.
Although the number 1s won the next two matches, they had to fight hard to overcome this pair, which posed many problems for them in the game.
Stupa / Lebrón, in Miami
New pair formed in 2024, Stupaczuk / Lebrón took their revenge after their defeat in the final of the Riyadh P1. In Miami, they have dominated Tapia / Coello 6 / 4 6 / 4.
Diestro / Esbri, last to fall
At theAsunción P2, the Spaniards Jose Antonio Diestro et Juanlu esbri have created the surprise eliminating Tapia / Coello in the quarter-finals (6/3 2/6 7/6). An impressive run for a newly formed pair before this competition, who had already beaten two Top 10 teams in the previous rounds.
Results of the teams that beat Tapia / Coello:
- Galan / Chingotto : 5 wins
- Galan / Lebron : 4
- Di Nenno / Stupaczuk : 4
- Sanz / Nieto : 1
- Sanz / Galán : 1
- Augsburger / Cardona : 1
- Stupaczuk / Lebrón : 1
- Diestro / Esbri : 1
- Paquito Navarro / Chingotto : 1
- Bergamini / Ruiz : 1
- Zalo Rubio / Arroyo : 1
In total, 11 pairs managed to beat Tapia / Coello since their association. But these few defeats in no way affect their domination on the world circuit. With already three titles this season, including a Major (Riyadh, Doha , Brussels), they firmly maintain their first place in the world. They now hope to win another title in Argentina, a particularly important tournament in Agustín Tapia.
