Le padel was not yet democratic Fernando Belasteguin was already shining on the slopes. Only 20 , Bela was already considered one of the best players in Argentina. In 2002, only 23 , he entered the highest place in the world rankings where he remained for over 13 years.

To reach this rank, and throughout his career, Bela was accompanied by the greatest players Of the history. A quick overview of those who shared the track with the “Boss”.

Fernando Belasteguin among juniors

Fernando Belasteguin discovers the padel in 1990, when he was only 10 years old. First attracted by football, he tried padel when the Club Atlético Gral of the city of Pehuajo, in the province of Buenos Aires opens some trails padel. He is then discovered by the father of Matí and Godo Diaz .

He will play in the junior category until he is 15 years old. During this period, he will have four partners : Mauro Ferracci (1990-1991), Lucio Ranocchia (1992), and of course Matí and Godo Díaz (1993-1997). It was from this precise moment that he became a professional player, at only 15 years old.

He will play the World Cup in Mar Del Plata alongside Mati in 1998 before retiring for the first time.

In 1999, when he withdrew from the padel, Bela is contacted by Roby Gattiker, the best Argentinian player. Roby offers his young compatriot a tour of Spain. Fernando will accept the challenge, then share the track with Alejandro Sanz, before returning to the professional circuit. This time, it will be alongside Guillermo Demianiuk. In 2000, the two men formed one of the best pairs in the world, just behind that of Gaby Reca / Sebastian Nerone.

In 2001, Fer' made another change of partner. This time, it's with the Spaniard Pablo Martínez Semprún that we find him. The Spanish-Argentinian pair wins five titles in total this season and finished in second place in the ranking, behind Juan Martín Díaz et Hernán Auguste.

Fernando Belasteguin / Juan Martin Diaz, the best pair in history

In 2002, the world of padel is about to experience a real revolution when Bela joins forces with Juan Martín Díaz. Together, the two men will remain at the top for thirteen consecutive years, holding the unbeaten record with 1 year and 9 months without losing a match. JMD and Bela win 22 tournaments in a row between September 2005 and June 2007.

Together, the two friends won everything and quite simply reigned over the padel global. They are the pair with the greatest longevity on the professional circuit among men.

Pablo Lima and the loss of the throne

In 2015, the legendary Diaz / Belasteguin pair disappeared, in favor of a new association: Pablo Lima / Fernando Belasteguin. With the Brazilian, Bela remains on the highest step of the podium, winning a series of coronations. The following year, Fernando Belasteguin obtained a distinction for his 15 consecutive years as number 1.

Note that he will share the track, during two tournaments, with Willy Lahoz, due to an injury to Pablo Lima, in 2015. Two tournaments won by the makeshift Spanish-Argentinian pair.

However, with Pablo Lima, things are getting tougher for the world number 1s who are seeing the rise of new pairs, notably Gutierrez/Navarro.

However, we will have to wait until 2018 for the inevitable to happen: King Bela loses his throne. After several injuries and a few absences, the Argentinian was robbed of his first place in the ranking by Maxi Sanchez et Sanyo Gutierrez

In 2019, after poor results alongside Pablo Lima, the emblematic pair in turn decided to separate.

The Tapia/Gutiérrez/Coello era

After his separation from Pablo Lima, Fernando Belasteguin will have a series of partners in 2019 and 2022. We will find him in particular alongsideAgustin Tapia, with whom he will stay until the end of 2020 (the COVID year). The two compatriots placed in fifth place in the rankings and won several titles, including the memorable Master Final in Menorca, their final tournament together in 2020, against the number 1s of the time, Lebron / Galan, in an anthology tie-break: 6/3 7/6 (22).

He will then share the track with Sanyo Gutiérrez but it will only last a few months. Mid-2021, the pair are already separating and now King Bela announces his new partner: Arturo Coello.

The Coello / Belasteguin pair is very popular with fans. THE King Arthur play with "his mentor” and together the young and the old annoy the best pairs in the world, winning a few titles, including that of Miami, at the start of the 2022 season.

The sequence of partners

After his separation from Arturo Coello, at the end of 2022, Fernando Belasteguin has difficulty settling down with another partner. At the start of 2023, he shares the track again with Sanyo Gutiérrez. However, it only takes a few tournaments for them to separate again. These two weren't meant to play together after all....

Fernando sets his sights on a younger player, mike yanguas. Unfortunately, the two men will not play many tournaments together in 2023 because an injury will keep the veteran away from the slopes for several months. The pair will last until the end of the season, before the separation and the announcement of retirement, planned for the end of 2024.

Moreover, this last year did not start very well for the Argentinian. He started with I fight Capra but the results were not there. It only took the pair three tournaments to separate. Finally, it is with Juan Tello now that King Bela shares the track, propelling him back to the right!

Tello Bela Seville

In total, Fernando Belasteguin will therefore have had 16 partners throughout his career! Will he experience another or will he end his career to the right of “Gato Tello?”

Gwenaelle Souyri

It was his brother who one day told him to accompany him on a track. padel, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the broadcast of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
