With the arrival of Winter, padel court managers and owners must anticipate the effects of bad weather to ensure player safety and preserve the condition of the facilities. Rain, wind, low temperatures and snow can have negative consequences on the structure of the courts, playing performance and the durability of the equipment. Here are a few tips to properly prepare your padel court for winter.
1. Thorough cleaning and maintenance of the surface
Un thorough cleaning Surface maintenance is crucial. Remove leaves, dust, and any debris that may accumulate on the field. A clean surface reduces the risk of slipping, prevents mold growth, and provides better traction for players.
Repair them minor damage before cold and damp make them worse. Any cracks or irregularities should be treated quickly to prevent them from getting worse due to frost.
2. Checking the drainage system
Un efficient drainage is essential to avoid standing water which could not only deteriorate the synthetic grass but also disrupt play. Regularly inspect the drains to ensure they are not blocked and are working properly, especially before periods of heavy rain.
3. Protection with suitable covers
Install specialized covers to protect the surface of the pitch from the elements. This helps reduce the accumulation of snow or rain and makes maintenance easier. These protections also minimize the risk of premature wear of the synthetic turf.
4. Regular maintenance of synthetic turf
To preserve the quality of the synthetic coating:
- Clean regularly organic waste such as leaves or seeds that could cause mold. Use a nylon broom or blower for gentle cleaning without disturbing the fill sand.
- Unzip and redistribute the sand filling in places where the coating behavior is altered. This helps maintain a uniform and high-performance surface.
5. Inspection and repairs
- Check the marking lines and repair any damaged joints.
- Apply anti-germination products to prevent the proliferation of weeds on the edges of the land.
- Remove chewing gum or other sticky residue to prevent it from becoming embedded in the coating.
6. Schedule regular check-ups
In winter, vigilance is still required. Schedule periodic inspections to detect potential problems before they become too costly to correct.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
