Ce Milan P1 delivered one of the biggest comebacks of the season. Beaten soundly 6/1 in the first leg, Alejandro Galán et Federico Chingotto were able to turn the situation around against the untouchables Agustín Tapia et Arturo Coello, to finally impose itself 2/6 6/3 6/0 and a 6/0 historical, symbol of a tactical and mental demonstration of the world number 2.
A one-sided first set
From the very first games, the world number 1s imposed their law. Wall is incandescent, triggering winning shots from all areas. Coello, for his part, locks the net and systematically takes the advantage on Chingotto by coming to block very quickly. The two men build an impenetrable wall: perfect defenses, surgical volleys, sharp smashes.
Gallant gets annoyed, makes mistakes, lowers his head. We feel he is frustrated, without a solution. Opposite, the steamroller is unfolding: 6/2 in 30 minutes, the tone seems set.
The Awakening of Chingotto
But instead of collapsing, Chingotto triggers the revolt. Calm, lucid, he restores his partner's confidence. He completely changes its tactical approach :
- il slows down the game and finds some millimeter chiquitas to prevent Coello from advancing,
- il varies its trajectories more,
- and above all, it begins to attack more strong, with a vibora pricked towards the grid which puts Coello in great difficulty.
This change in intensity awakens Gallant, who regains his energy, his aggressiveness and his precision. Under the watchful eye of Jorge Martinez, the duo adapts its game plan. Little by little, the balance of power reverses. Tapia forces, Coello doubts. And Chingalán conclude the second round: 6/3.
The perfect plan in the third set
The following is high level. Galan and Chingotto decide to target Coello, exhausted and unbalanced. Chingotto takes complete control in his diagonal, dominating the Spaniard in all compartments.
His lightning-fast footwork, perfect counters and reading of the game put Coello out of position. Behind, Gallant takes the net and dictates the rhythm : sharp volleys, heavy bandejas, devastating smashes and a newfound physical intensity.
Tapia, frustrated, loses patience. His choices become more hasty, his blows less precise. On the other side, everything is working. The two men don't give up and inflict a 6/0 resounding to the best pair in the world. A first in the final for Tapia and Coello, totally overwhelmed.
The keys to reversal
- The mental : when they were on the verge of breaking up, Chingotto brought Galán back into the game. Their communication and positive attitude reversed the dynamic.
- The tactical plan : Chingotto neutralized Coello with perfect chiquitas, his vibora poked at the grid, lobs stretched to Tapia to avoid being closed down by Coello, while Galán used deep volleys to push Tapia away from the net.
- Consistency : against the number 1s, it was impossible to lower the intensity. Chingalán maintained a maximum concentration level for more than an hour.
A victory with a symbolic flavor
This triumph, beyond the feat, relaunches the race for the world throne. Galán and Chingotto, now tied on the European tour (2 wins each against Tapia / Coello), confirm that they have found the key to make the kings of the circuit doubt.
With 1000 points collected in Milan, they are getting closer in the rankings before tackling two tournaments within their reach: the FIP Platinum Lyon and Newgiza P2, where Tapia and Coello will not be present.
And to add a symbolic touch, Alejandro Galán regains the advantage over Agustín Tapia in the ranking of individual titles: 51 to 50A small personal battle that the Spaniard refuses to give in to.
In Milan, Chingotto and Galán didn't just win a title. They proved that by combining tactics, calm and courage, it was possible to overthrow even the greatest.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
