Le Italy Major Premier Padel 2025 began this week at the Foro Italico in Rome, transformed for the occasion from the red of clay to the blue of padel courts. This is the second Major of the season after Doha, and one of the most anticipated tournaments on the circuit.
Men's side: shocks from the first round
In the men's competition, several matches deserve special attention from the first round. We will notably find Thomas Leygue et Jesus Moya facing the Portuguese brothers Miguel and Nuno Deus The winners of this confrontation will be entitled to a big piece: Coello and Tapia , the world number 1.
We will also note the beginnings of the new association Moyano / Head face Mouriño / Fernandez , as well as the duel between Lijó / Belluati et Abbate / Montiel .
The top seeds are entering the second round, and some matches are already making people salivate:
- Chingotto/Galan , winners in Buenos Aires, could cross paths Cardona / Augsburger in quarters.
- A potential semi-final between Stupa / Lebron et Chingotto / Galan is already taking shape...
- More shocks to come: Tello / Di Nenno in the same part as Yanguas / N i eto et Guerrero / Leal .
- We could have a remake of the Buenos Aires final between Tapia / Coello et Paquito / Bergamini in quarter.
Enticing posters from the first rounds
In the ladies, Léa Godallier et Laura Lujan , who have just won the FIP Silver Bandol, are directly qualified for the main draw. They will face a pair from the qualifications in the first round. In the event of victory, they could then meet Osoro / Calvo , a pair in shape.
Alix Collombon , associated with the Spanish Martinez , inherits a bye in the first round and could face Polo / Aguilar ou Varo / Perez to the second.
The women's tournament will also offer us a duel between Casali / Gallardo et Las Heras / Marchetti , two Italian-Spanish pairs. We will also follow the clash of the “Martas”: Barrera / Caparrós salary. Arellano / Montes .
Finally, the world's number one pair Josemaría / Sanchez will start their campaign in the last 16. In their half of the table also appear Bea González / Claudia Fernández , which could result in a semi-final identical to that of Buenos Aires, but before that they will have a complicated quarter where they will logically cross paths with Ortega / Alonso . Triay / Brea at the bottom of the table could cross Araujo / Ustero in the semi-finals.
Playing Conditions and Expectations
As is often the case in Rome, the outdoor playing conditions, with their heat and wind, could hold some surprises, especially for the top seeds. Prestigious names like Carlos Pozzoni , Ari Sánchez , or Ale Galán were present at the draw, highlighting the importance of this Major.
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
