Three 20-year-olds from Bordeaux (Côme Legroux, Jules Pin and Paul-Marie Vouvou) collected €2000 for the association. “The Good Star”, thanks to their charity tournaments padel (Smash Padel Bordeaux).

Created on the initiative of Côme and Paul-Marie, lovers of padel, they organized their first tournament for the benefit of an association in June 2023. “Our goal was to reconcile the influence of a sport like padel with social commitment”, they explain.

They then wondered how to combine youth, humanitarianism and trend. The answer was simple: sport, and more particularly padel. For them, it is the ideal sport: on the rise, fun and easy to learn, therefore accessible to a wide audience.

After choosing sport, they came up with the concept: how to encourage their friends, young like them, to donate money for an association? The solution was a charity tournament of padel where all funds collected through registrations would be donated to an association. For this first edition, they managed to convince 32 friends and relatives to participate, thus raising more than €400 in four hours. “The tournament was not organized in the best way, but the important thing for us was the money raised for the association”, they say.

This initial success would not have been possible without the support of their first sponsor, “Maison BMC” of Xavier Beaudru, who covered the organizational costs, and the trust of Camille Benoist, responsible padel to the “UCPA Sport Station Bordeaux”, which provided the playing fields free of charge padel at their disposal.

The following year, feeling the need to structure the tournament and make it a larger event, Jules joined the team. Together, they created the association “Smash Padel Bordeaux” (the same name as their tournament). They then looked for dates when all three were available at the same time in Bordeaux to organize the new editions. “The big difficulty is that we are all from Bordeaux but we study in three different cities (Bordeaux, Lille and Madrid).”

One of them therefore had the idea of organizing three different and independent editions to raise more funds and reach as many people as possible. Why three? “Three friends, so three dates, each will take care of an edition, and one date per month because none of us is available at the same time because of our internships”. They decided to do an edition on April 25, May 25 and June 17. However, due to the postponement of the first edition, Paul-Marie was ultimately unable to ensure it, so Lyore Abraham joined them temporarily to help coordinate the different editions between the three friends. “I was the only one available on the three dates, and I had already helped with the first edition the year before, plus this feminine touch encouraged more girls to participate in the tournament”, she will say.

Thanks to their success last year, the “Smash” team Padel” attracted new sponsors (CEA 33, Carnaval Café Bordeaux, CMSO Pro, Château Maucaillou and French Disorder) and retained the trust of the UCPA. The four young people from Bordeaux managed to collect this time €2000 for the benefit of the association “La Bonne Étoile”, founded by Laeticia Hallyday and Hélène Darroze, which works for displaced populations in North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. “Being from neighboring Congo, it was really close to my heart to support this association which works in this region plagued by armed violence”, explains Paul-Marie.

In any case, they are clear: this money collected is possible thanks to the support of tournament participants, sponsors and partners who work to ensure the smooth running of the event, and their friends who share this initiative. “We would like to thank everyone who, directly or indirectly, participates in this project. We’ll see you soon.”
