Tensions continue to rise between players on the circuit Premier Padel, while some seem to take advantage of the situation to collect points in tournaments where there is less competition. This behavior is strongly criticized by many players who, for their part, campaign for better conditions on the main circuit.
Public chat Canal +, the French number one Thomas Leygue expressed his dissatisfaction with what he considers to be a “double punishment” :
“We don’t play so that the circuit respects us more, and at the same time, some players take advantage of it to participate in these tournaments where the competition is weak and win valuable points.”
The Lebron/Stupa affair: a persistent malaise
Last minute registration of Juan lebron et Franco Stupaczuk au P2 of Cancun has sparked a wave of incomprehension among the players involved in the boycott. Despite the explanations provided by Stupa, the padel community remains divided on this decision.
“The players did not appreciate this last-minute registration at all. We do not know what happened internally, but they have not given us any explanation.”
From a sporting perspective, this participation has also been criticized, with some feeling that their presence took away all suspense from the competition. Not participating might have had more impact in their fight against the current conditions of the circuit.
A fight hijacked by some players?
For players involved in the fight for better conditions, seeing some of their colleagues taking advantage of the situation is difficult to accept.
“What is frustrating is that we are doing all this to improve conditions for all players, but some are taking advantage of the situation to get points without real competition.”
“We have been fighting for years to gain a few points in ultra-competitive tournaments, and now some people are taking advantage of our fight to advance in the rankings without opposition. It is extremely frustrating.”
Tolito / Alfonso: the disturbing example
The case of Tolito Aguirre et Gonzalo Alfonso, players from another circuit (A1 Padel), perfectly illustrates this problem. Having reached the final of the P2 of Cancun Without any real opposition, they surprised by losing in the final, but still collected valuable points. A situation that questions the legitimacy of these tournaments in the current context.
It will be noted that Stupa has already indicated that he agrees that points acquired during these boycotted tournaments are not counted.
Despite the tensions, the P2 of Cancun will not have been able to extinguish the fire surrounding this crisis. The fracture within the circuit Premier Padel seems deeper than ever.
