Forget it  carbon fiber , innovative technologies and rackets costing several hundred euros. At  Saint-Jean-de-Luz The Feast of Saint John is celebrated with kitchen utensils. A look back at the  3e edition  of a tournament unlike any other.

When a group of friends from  Tennis Club Luzien  and  Central Sports Club  deciding to organize a padel tournament for the local festivities, it can only result in a delightful, chaotic mess.

The concept? The  Donibaneko Frying Pan Padel Tour .

Yes, you read that right: here, the yellow ball is hit with blows of  frying pans Needless to say, when it comes to effects, bandejas and window exits, it was necessary to revise the classics.

A decidedly warm atmosphere

In terms of atmosphere, it couldn't be more convivial. The tournament once again brought together players who came mainly to have fun, share a good time and try to master the tool of the day.

As for the cast, we spotted a few names that weren't entirely unknown. The ever-present  Morgan Mannarino , always on the hunt for a trophy that keeps eluding him.

Another former star who has also fallen into oblivion, in the person of  John Dumartin determined to prove that he still has some of his legendary grit left.

And finally, the young and promising Luzian  Iban Ortiz incredibly at ease with the frying pan in hand.

Seven people in athletic gear pose together indoors, holding red-and-black circular awards and smiling at the camera.

Winners rewarded… with frying pans

A huge congratulations to the players and organizers for this completely crazy third edition.

A big thank you also to the store  Pro et Compagnie of Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle , which rewarded the winners with magnificent  new stoves The opposite would have been disappointing.

One last nod to the crêperie  Piper Beltz  from Saint-Jean-de-Luz for the succulent post-tournament meal, well deserved after so much effort and so many approximate lobs.

See you next year for the  4th edition of Donibaneko Pan Padel Tour .

Benjamin Dupouy

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
