Eduardo Alonso, a Spanish professional padel player, had a positive 2024 in terms of results. Currently ranked 14th in the world and associated with the Spanish Alejandro arroyo for the 2025 season, he was interviewed by Padel Up, where he shares his feelings about the past season, his move to Valladolid, the coaching of Gustavo Pratto, And much more.
2024: the year of revelation
The 24-year-old Spanish player has had his best year on the professional padel circuit in terms of results and consistency. In fact, Eduardo Alonso played alongside different partners throughout the season. He started the year with Alejandro arroyo, before briefly sharing the track with the Argentinian Alex Chozas end of June, then to partner with Momo González for the second part of the season.
Key results of the 2024 season:
- 4th place au Barcelona Final Master
- Quart de finale in each Major
- Two FIP titles won: FIP Star Gran Canaria et FIP Platinum Sardinia
- Three semi-finals : Bordeaux P2, Milan P1, NewGiza P2
I think it was one of my best years. The feeling of happiness after so many years of work, and more than happiness, it's satisfaction, because in the end, you spend a lot of time training, you see that it doesn't work, you lose matches and all that...
A different path from that of other players who exploded very early on the professional circuit, but Eduardo Alonso imposes itself on 24 years as one of best players in the world. He reaches his career best ranking and closes the year by participating in the Final Master, bringing together the 16 best players in the world.
I'm one of those who took a long time to find their way, to evolve. It may have taken me longer than Arturo, Yanguas, or other players my age. But in the end, I believe that if you work hard and are consistent, with good conditions, you can always reach the top. Of course, not everyone has the same pace, and it's complicated, because sometimes you compare yourself to others, which isn't very good.
Coello, Valladolid: a change of career and life
The Spanish player has already shared the track of the global 1 number in the past during two tournaments (Spanish Championship). Even if the results did not live up to expectations, this experience allowed the two players to build a beautiful friendship, which led Eduardo Alonso to major change in his career and life.
I didn't shine much with Arturo, but hey, it was good. It's true that we had a good time, we enjoyed ourselves, and it was a pleasure to share the track with him, beyond the professional side, because we got along very well off the field, and it was a real pleasure to participate in the competition.
Native Valencia, Eduardo Alonso met his current coach, Gustavo Pratto, thanks to Arturo CoelloThe latter is a renowned trainer in the world of professional padel.
We'd known each other since we were kids, but it wasn't as close a relationship as it was then. We started to get along really well, we became friends, and from then on, actually, the decision to live in Valladolid was a bit influenced by him, because it was thanks to him that I met Gus. I went there to train a few times to prepare for these tournaments, and I really liked it, so I decided to move there with them.
A real change of environment and life for the young Spaniard, who left the family home at the age of 18 to experience the professionalism of world padel.
There were some tough times, but most of them were really good, especially thanks to the support of Gus and the people around me, who helped me a lot, especially my family and Arturo.
Gustavo Pratto, coach of world number 1s Coello / Tapia and Spanish Arturo Coello for many years, also runs an academy in Valladolid (Gustavo Pratto Academy). This season, he also oversees the reformed pair Edu Alonso / Alex Arroyo.
Gus has this unique ability to transform you and shape your character for competition […] but the person I was then and the person I am today after spending these 5 or 6 years with him are two different worlds. […] what makes him strong is his mentality.
His association with Momo Gonzalez
Last July, Momo Gonzalez ends his adventure in Malaga alongsideAlex Ruiz before testing a two-tournament association with the Spaniard, then ranked 19th in the world, Eduardo AlonsoAfter these conclusive tests, they officially made the decision to share the track together for the end of the season.
It was quite a difficult decision for him. At first, Momo had the choice between staying in the top 8 with me or taking another partner to maintain his position. But he took the risk. It was complicated, because at that time, I was playing with Alex Chozas. […] It went well, and I'm glad we played together.

For the 2025 season, Momo Gonzalez, after a series of good results with Eduardo Alonso, including a 4th place in the Barcelona Final Master, has chosen to partner with Jon sanz, currently ranked 10th in the world and the last winner of the Final Master.
When Momo made the decision to break off the partnership, I respected him 100%. Of course, it hurt a little because I felt very comfortable with him, but I understand the decision. At the end of the day, he's playing with John, and he can receive certain things from John that I couldn't give him, like power. But it's all good.
Reform the pair with Alex Arroyo
Childhood friends, the two Spanish players, Eduardo Alonso et Alex Arroyo were associated last season, including two quarter-finals in Major (Qatar and Italy) and two in P1 (Acapulco and Santiago).
We already played together a while ago, and that was one of the reasons I wanted to play with him again. I like to do long-term projects with people my own age or younger players, so I can extend our time together. I felt that Alex and I still had a lot to improve on. We had great potential to improve, and I believed we could do really well. That's why I made the decision to come back and play with him, and today, the feelings are very good.
A season that did not start as hoped, with a defeat in the round of 16 against the pair Chozas / Ruiz in three sets at Riyadh P1.
Signing with Nox
Nox signe a second player of the Top 20 worldwide with Spanish Eduardo Alonso.
From the very beginning, with Nox, I felt that they had real confidence in me, that they supported me 100%, and that they saw a great project for the future. That's really what motivated me to sign with them.
A long-term partnership between the two parties that promises many projects.
There will be new things. We'll talk about them in September or October, but for now, we have to stay tuned. Everything will be revealed in due time.
The evolution of padel
The current debate about modern padel focuses on a style of play focused on powerful shots and fast play, which could lead to the emergence of new player profiles.
With the evolution of padel, I have no choice but to improve my hitting, and I train that every day. It's a bit complicated because there's only preseason to really work on it seriously. And since it's cold during that time, the ball is heavier, and that can be risky for the shoulder.
Padel is evolving towards a faster game, and that's a bit of a shame for me, but it's the reality. There's still a lot to say about this debate, but it all depends on the type of court.
Le gold point and surface change are two of the topics that spark discussions about the future of padel.
I prefer the advantage, it suits me better.
It's not necessarily clay, but I think we could try other types of surfaces.
To conclude the interview, a question that many people ask is the importance of a title and the competition itself. What would a player choose between playing the deciding point of a Mondial, which could deliver a historic victory for his country, or win a Major, one of the most prestigious titles on the world circuit?
That's a tough question! […] Honestly, I'd say playing for the national team, helping your country win, is one of the greatest things you can experience. Of course, I'd also like to win a Major, but there's more than one chance. On the other hand, playing for your country is unique.

A big sports enthusiast and former tennis player, I discovered padel a few years ago without really focusing on it. Then I became addicted to this sport by practicing it and watching the premier padel matches. Looking forward to sharing the 2025 news with you!
