Present at 4Padel Strasbourg for French Interclub Championships National 1 2025 , Lucas Potel , 18 years old, is one of the young talents to watch at ALL In Lyon. Having switched from tennis to padel in a few months, he is quickly establishing himself and is aiming to progress to the highest level.
A quick and promising start
How did you discover padel? I started in August 2024 with a internship at the French Touch Academy under the direction of Mario Cordero . It was a great experience with an incredible coach. This internship really made me want to get into this discipline. Then, I joined All In Padel 69 in September with Johan Bergeron, Jessica Giner and Arnaud Taboni . And in six months, I had the chance to join the first team.
Did you expect to evolve so quickly? No, it was very fast! My rise surprised me, but I'm super happy to be able to measure myself against the best right now.
Rapid progression to the elite
You are already ranked in the French top 350. What are your goals? My short term goal is to join the French top 100 . Then I want to compete with the best on the international scene.
With the many international tournaments organized in France, do you plan to take advantage of them? Yes, it is a great opportunity. There are about six to eight tournaments in France where I can test myself. If I evolve quickly, why not play with players like Thomas Basso or Jérôme Inzerillo ? I don't know yet how I'm going to progress, but I'm giving myself every chance.
From tennis to padel: a change of direction
You come from tennis. Can you tell us more about it? Yes, I started the tennis at 7-8 years old in Champagne-Ardenne. I played for ten years , reaching a ranking of 3/6 .
Why did you choose padel? I stopped playing tennis last September to devote myself entirely to padel. Today, it is my priority.
An offensive style of play
How would you define your playing style? I'm a left handed, right handed player , with a rather game aggressive . I try to make few mistakes and seize all attacking opportunities .
Do you take a lot of risks? As soon as there is a ball in the air, I do not hesitate to attack. My goal is always to put pressure on the opponent .
A first big test in competition
What will be your next tournament? I should participate in the P1000 from Reims (No Ad Padel Club), but it is not yet confirmed.
If not Reims, what's next? I will probably play the P1000 from Mam's Soccer in Alès on February 15 . This will be a great opportunity to test myself.
