After two years during which supply failed to meet demand, 2023 saw the racquet market of Padel stabilize. This is what explains to us Playtomic in its latest report.

2021-2022: demand exceeds supply

Indeed, in 2021 and 2022, the demand for shovels has been so high that manufacturers couldn't keep up with. They were unable to supply enough rackets to retailers and therefore, unsurprisingly, to players.

Despite these difficulties, distributors continued to order equipment, in anticipation of future demand. For consumers, this resulted in a price increase until the end of 2022.

Brands and manufacturers then rushed to increase their production capacities to meet future demand. They imagined that it would continue to progress in the same proportions.

2023, new mistakes made

However, the opposite happened. In 2023, these are 500 000 shovels fewer that were sold compared to 5 million rackets distributed in 2022.

As production increased, distributors found themselves with too much stock to sell. Prices have therefore fallen, and some brands have even chosen to remove certain references.

Towards a stabilization of the market in 2024?

According to the report, the market should stabilize in 2024, making us forget the difficulties encountered since 2021. In fact, supply and demand will find a meeting point, allowingavoid stock problems et price fluctuations who as a result.

The only exception is Spain, which is still in the adjustment phase. However, it should quickly return to levels similar to the rest of the international market.

Intermediate snowshoes at the top of sales

This is a statistic to be taken with a grain of salt due to the particularities of the market that year, but these are indeed the rackets aimed at an intermediate level audience which were the most sold in 2023.

Sold at an average price of €130, the typical racket had the following characteristics: round shape, made of fiberglass, semi-soft hardness and center balance.
