Whoever saw it coming, raise your hand! Premier Padel P2 of Asuncion reserved a huge surprise with the elimination of Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia , current world number 1, beaten in the quarter-finals by José Diestro and Juanlu Esbri . A completely unexpected defeat that turns the table upside down. In the other quarter-final, Cardona and Augsburger also caused a sensation by dismissing Stupaczuk and Lebrón .
The earthquake signed Esbrit / Diestro
The 2025 edition of the Premier Padel P2 in Asunción experienced a real earthquake. The world number 1s, Agustín Tapia and Arturo Coello , were eliminated in the quarter-finals by the unexpected pair: José Antonio Diestro and Juanlu Esbri , who are nevertheless playing their very first tournament together.
Already impressive in the first round against Javi Garrido and Tino Libaak , then authors of a new exploit against Paquito Navarro and Lucas Bergamini In the last 16, the two Spaniards confirmed their incredible momentum by ending the winning streak of the kings of the circuit, Tapia and Coello, recent winners in Doha and Brussels.
From the very first exchanges, the ranking leaders seemed to be in trouble. Despite starting the match to their advantage (2-0), the world number ones conceded four breaks that rendered their efforts useless. Diestro and Esbri took advantage to win the first set with a score of 6/3 .
Tapia and Coello reacted with authority in the second set, dominating their opponents to come back to one set each ( 6/2 ). But far from being impressed, Diestro and Esbri continued to play freely in the deciding set. Each pair had several break points (seven for Esbri/Diestro, six for Coello/Tapia), without managing to convert them. It was therefore necessary to have a final battle at tie-breaker , perfectly controlled by the outsiders, who imposed themselves 7 / 6 (1) .
With this success in 2h25 game , Diestro and Esbri become the third pair of the season to knock off the number 1s. They will play their first semi-final of the year, and even the very first on Premier Padel for José Diestro.
A completely new semi-final
Opposite, Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger will be their opponents. The Spanish-Argentine duo also created a surprise by eliminating Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebrón (6/3 5/7 6/2), the number 3 seeds. This is their second semi-final of the season, after having already beaten this year both COELLO/TAPIA et Galan/Chingotto .

In the other part of the table, Ale Galán and Fede Chingotto shone in the face of Alex Chozas and Sanyo Gutiérrez , pushing them aside sharply 6 / 0 6 / 2 in just 45 minutes. The number 2 seeds thus chain a fifth consecutive semi-final , having only missed the very first tournament of the year.
They will find Martin Di Nenno and Juan Tello , who qualified after the withdrawal of Victor Ruiz et Xisco Gil , injured, while the Argentines were leading 6/1 1/1.
