The world's number 2 pair, Gemma Triay / Delfi Brea, was invited to the microphone of Padel Review to express himself after his victory in the Miami P1 face Ari Sánchez et Paula Josemaría.

A third coronation in Miami

Triay and Brea have once again overturned the world number 1s, Sanchez and Josemaría, for the second time this season. After a final won in three sets at Gijon P2 (0/6 6/1 6/4), they won again in three sets at Miami P1 (2/6 6/1 6/4). Two major victories, obtained according to the same pattern: a first set lost, followed by a turnaround to win 6/1 6/4.

“I sent three balls out in the first game of the match. Missing three balls costs money. I know it's a penalty, and in the end, we started with a break down against a pair that, once they got the lead, became very dangerous. They're very strong, very consistent, and I think that's what happened. There's no real mystery. I think I mostly started with misplaced energy, but then the important thing is to turn things around. Hopefully, we can do it sooner next time.” Delphi Brea

How did they reverse the trend?

During these finals, Triay and Brea were able to adjust their game after a complicated first set.

“Work, focus, strategy. In the first set, we made unforced errors. We tried to adjust our lobs better, to make them higher, and that allowed us to be more aggressive, to go forward and to counterattack better. I tried to put more pressure on the net, to play in my comfort zone, and Delphi controlled the game well. That's what made the difference.” Gemma Triay

The newly formed pair for this 2025 season won their third title of the year in Miami, during the fourth tournament of the season. After being eliminated in the semifinals of the Riyadh P1 against the world number 3, Fernandez and Gonzalez, they continued with three consecutive coronations.

“We knew we were going to play well together, but we had a very short preseason. We still needed time to play matches. I feel like every day, everything is getting smoother. We're progressing better and better, and right now, we feel very good, very comfortable. Each of us knows what she has to do and what she has to bring to the team. I had no doubt that our duo would work well, but winning three tournaments in a row is never easy.” Gemma Triay

Padel conquers the United States

Le Premier Padel launches on the American market with the organization of the first tournament of this circuit in the United States, in Miami. A successful first under the direction of the legendary Fernando Belasteguín, which attracted a large audience, both in the stands and on screens.

“We felt very appreciated! It was a super fun week, with all the American atmosphere and spectacle. I hope this will be the first of many. I think this sport can be very popular here. It's just a matter of time and hard work, and I have no doubt it's already happening. Little by little, we'll be coming to play here much more often.” Gemma Triay

Records and a clear objective

At 32 years, Gemma Triay, currently ranked number 3 in the world, played in her 80th career final in Miami. How does she manage to maintain such motivation?

“Actually, I never get tired of winning titles and reaching the final. What tires me is losing! (laughs) So, honestly, I don't need to make an effort to stay motivated. I'm a very ambitious player, I try to get up every day to learn new things. I love going to practice. I know I still have a lot to improve, and that's what pushes me forward. I love my job, I love competing, and I do my best to contribute to my team and continue to improve every day.” Gemma Triay

For its part, Argentina Delfi Brea, ranked 4th in the world at 25, dreams of becoming number 1 at the end of the season and representing his country at the highest level.

“I hope so! I'm working towards it. I'm very aware of what I need to do to make it happen. I'm looking forward to the Buenos Aires tournament; it's going to be an incredible experience, beyond the result. But for now, I'm staying focused on my daily work.” Delfi Brea

With such dynamics, Triay and Brea clearly have the ambition to turn the 2025 season around.
