The FIP Junior Euro group stage Padel The Cup comes to a close this Thursday in Porto. While both French teams are still in contention for the semi-finals, they will approach this final day with different objectives. The French women's team will play for qualification against Italy, while the French men's team will try to maintain their top spot in their group against the surprising Belgian side.
The Bleuettes with their backs to the wall
After an ideal start against Estonia, the French women saw their momentum halted on Wednesday by Sweden (2-1). This defeat now forces them to pull off a major upset in their final group match.
Facing them will be Italy, who have only suffered one defeat so far and are top of the group. The Italians have confirmed their status as favorites since the start of the competition and will represent the biggest challenge the French team will face.
The equation is simple: A victory would open the doors to the semi-finals , while a defeat could end France's journey in this group stage, depending on the result of Sweden.
The boys want to finish the job
For boys, the context is very different.
Having defeated Italy on the opening day, followed by a resounding 3-0 victory over the Netherlands, the French U21 team has made a perfect start to the competition. They will, however, have one final hurdle to overcome to finish top of their group.
The French will be opposed to Belgium A true sensation in this group after their unexpected victory against Italy. The Belgians have shaken up the group and also arrive with two wins to their name.
A duel that will therefore have the feel of a group final, with first place at stake before the start of the final phase.
