Interviewed by Radio Monaco, the President of the APT Padel Tour, Fabrice Pastor, looks back on the year 2020 complicated because of the health crisis and foresees a very rich year 2021 for the Fabrice Pastor Cup and the APT Padel Tour.

“Much easier to be pro before”

Former professional player of padel, Fabrice Pastor explains how the high level has evolved “It was much easier to be pro before, today there are millions of players”. This enthusiast of padel still managed to climb to 69th place in the world!

The Fabrice Pastor Cup, which has allowed the discovery of many great talents, such as Federico Chingotto and Juan Tello, is truly the pride of the Monegasque: “In the world ranking today, 5 Top 20 players and 20 Top 50 players are there thanks to the Fabrice Pastor Cup! ”

“The APT Padel Tour present in 12 countries ”

APT Padel Tour, which began its year 2020 in Mexico, the country where the padel was invented in Acapulco for a very successful tournament as part of the ATP500 tennis tournament, was hit hard by the health crisis: “No one was ready for disaster”.

For 2021, the circuit of which Fabrice Pastor is the owner intends to resume its development even more vigorously, with 18 tournaments in 12 countries, including Monaco!

The Fabrice Pastor Cup returns in 2021

On hiatus since 2018, the Fabrice Pastor Cup is back! Thanks to her, the Monegasque intends to help talented players who for the moment cannot claim to be professional, in South America, but also on the Old Continent: “We always think we have to help people from South America, but in Europe too there are players who cannot afford to travel every weekend to go to tournaments. ”.

Today, the padel is still very, very far from its cousin tennis in terms of Prize Money but Fabrice Pastor tries to help the players as best he can: “It was to help a little and pay tribute to a sport that has given me so much and made me happy”.

Prince Albert II: passionate about padel

Prince Albert II of Monaco is also a great fan of padel : “He is a very, very good padel (…) Last year he won a tournament in Beausoleil with Thomas Johansson ”.

Most important in padel ?

Le padel is becoming more professional, there are more and more good players. What makes the difference? According to Fabrice Pastor, it is the mind: “As in all sports, I believe that the head is the most important thing”.
