In France, few people have heard of  Fatuma Mohamed Atchani , the governor of Kwale County, Kenya. She participated in the opening of the second edition of the Intercontinental Cup…and was even able to inaugurate the track alongside the President of the region,  Khattat Yanja .

The opportunity for us to go and question this public figure on the place of padel in his country.

“First of all, I want to say that it is very pleasant to attend such an international padel competition. It was  the first time i played padel  and I really had a great time. It was also the first time I had the opportunity to look at it up close.

We are here in Dakhla and I think this is something that could easily be brought back to Kenya, especially to my county, Kwale.  It's a really good sport . "

A sport still little known in Kenya

“In Kenya,  Padel is being discussed on a large scale.  For example, in my riding, it is still very new. The fact of being able to watch and play is something that I find really very interesting. So once I get home, I'll take it back in my suitcases.

In Kwale we don't have any padel courts yet.  It’s a very interesting challenge.  than to bring this discipline home and I would like to put money into having courts.

I think that  Padel can help at the tourism level , especially in Kwale. It is a place where we have very beautiful sunny white sand beaches.  It's a sport that I could see being practiced by the sea . "

It was her brother who one day told her to accompany him to a padel court, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court.
