Fernando Belasteguin, in an interview given to our colleagues at Relief, raised an issue that has often been underestimated over the past three years: its physical problems. Anxious not to give any clues to his opponents, he had tried to hide them as much as possible. However, this last year seems to have been particularly marked by difficulties, doubtless explaining a loss of form at times.
He tells us :
“I was living with pain, especially in my right tendon, the one I tore in 2019. The connection with the soleus had kept a scar that was not very flexible, no matter what I did. I couldn't remember the last time I woke up without pain.
I have done extreme things, physically speaking, devoting up to 12 hours a day to various exercises and treatments. I also made sacrifices on the family level, because I left home for 15 days to heal as quickly as possible. I literally pushed my body to the extreme to perform well in competition.
But after all these years, my body finally told me: 'Stop, give me more attention, because I've already given you so much.
“I have been waking up for four days without feeling any pain in my body. It has been two or three years since I experienced that.”
