Who owns the professional circuit Premier Padel ? How is organized Premier Padel ? At Roland-Garros, we tried to find out more about how the new official circuit of the International Federation of Padel (FIP).
Luigi Carraro responds to us by precise way : "Land circuit Premier Padel belongs to the International Federation of Padel."
We went into detail with him.
“Only the FIP could not create this circuit”
For the President of the FIP, gaining this autonomy in the face of World Padel Tour and creating a professional circuit owned by itself required a partnership.
The commercial exploitation of the circuit needed a partner, because it is necessary to be realistic: only, the FIP did not have the economic power to make this circuit.
"Premier Padel developed by three parties”
For Luigi Carraro, it is above all three parts that develop this professional circuit.
“The circuit belongs to the FIP. ” ButThis project has 3 parties developing it: the FIP, Qatar Sports Investments (QSI), and the Association of Professional Players of Padel (PPA)”
“QSI: a chance for the FIP”
In the development of the FIP and the establishment of its circuit, QSI would be a “chance” because the investment fund is “more than a partner".
“QSI allowed the FIP and the Players Association to be associated on the commercial part.”
It is thus understood that QSI would be at the origin of this association between the FIP and PPA on the commercial part.
Clearly, the FIP and the Players Association have a commercial interest in Premier Padel. We also understand that “the FIP also has a percentage of the profits from this circuit.”
These answers make it possible to answer, at least partially, the question concerning the possible conflict of interest which we discussed last June following your comments.
Indeed, the fact of having two members of the FIP on the board makes it possible to directly manage Premier Padel and explains why the FIP claims to have control of Premier Padel. A priori, there is therefore a capitalistic link between the FIP and QSI since on the Qatari official document, we note that the FIP and QSI are the two shareholders of the private entity Premier Padel LLC, domiciled in Qatar.
Regarding the players, given the first information we shared with you, it would seem that they are granted bonuses according to the profits made by the circuit.
But regarding the administrative details of the FIP/QSI/PPA gathering, the Italian preferred to postpone his response:
“This is confidential information. We might say it, but I prefer all three parties to say it together.”
