This situation reignites the debate surrounding registration rules and the integrity of international padel competitions.

The Hong Kong player  Lok Hei Jamie Yau , who had never won a single official match on the FIP circuit, secured a place in the main draw by teaming up with Spaniard Iñigo Jofre, currently  29rd player in the world .

Thanks to his partner's high ranking, the pair even entered the tournament with the status of  pair 17 This situation immediately provoked numerous reactions in the world of padel.

The duo were ultimately defeated in their opening match by two Albanian players who had received wildcards and possessed no FIP points. These Albanians then suffered a double 6-0 defeat in the following round.

The clip quickly went viral on social media. Comments multiplied, ranging from mockery and incomprehension to criticism of the current system.

Some internet users are even suggesting a possible financial agreement between the two players to facilitate this registration. Others, on the contrary, believe that the current regulations allow this type of situation and that there is therefore no cause for controversy.

Among the most understanding reactions:

"If it's legal, I don't see the problem."

While others are much more virulent:

"I wonder how much Jofre was paid..."

Other comments are much more severe, arguing that this type of situation damages the image of sport and discredits the most important tournaments on the FIP circuit.

 The FIP regulations called into question 

This case mainly revives a question already raised several times in professional padel: should the rules for registering for international tournaments be changed?

Currently, a pair's combined ranking is sufficient to enter the main draws. A highly ranked player can therefore allow a much lower-ranked partner—or even a near-amateur, if not a beginner—to bypass the qualifying rounds.

A legal system, but one that is now raising questions within part of the circuit, particularly regarding category tournaments.  FIP Platinum supposed to represent the elite of the international circuit outside Premier Padel.

 Towards a change in the rules? 

For some padel stakeholders, the FIP could in the future impose a minimum individual ranking to directly access the main draws of major tournaments.

The objective would be to avoid excessive differences in level and to preserve the sporting credibility of international competitions.

It remains to be seen whether this controversy will actually push the  International Federation of Padel  to change its regulations in the coming months.
