They were not far from creating the surprise of the day. Léa Godallier and Giorgia Marchetti lost 3/6 6/1 6/1 to the seed n ° 6, Lorena Rufo and Jessica Castello, at the end of a hard-fought match.

A first set controlled from start to finish

The Franco-Italian pair made a perfect start to the match. Tactically well-positioned, they imposed their rhythm and surprised their opponents from the start. At 3/2, they succeeded in break before being immediately unbroken, but reacted immediately to regain the advantage and conclude the set 6/3.

Castello and Rufo raise their voices

The second set went to the advantage of the Spanish. More aggressive, Jessica castello takes the game into his own hands, no longer hesitating to impose himself in the center of the field. With a constant pressure, the favorites gradually stifle Godallier and Marchetti, who struggle to find openings.

In the third set, they held on until 1/1, before conceding a break decisive. From there, Castello took up more and more space in the diagonal in front of Marchetti, and imposed his rhythm. Despite several disputed games, the Spanish closed the match 6-1.

An encouraging defeat before New Giza

If frustration dominates in the heat of the moment, Léa Godallier and Giorgia Marchetti can come out with their heads held high. Facing a pair of world top 20, they showed a very promising level of play and confirmed their good dynamics after their recent qualification for the Milan P1 main draw.
They leave Lyon with 25 FIP points and valuable benchmarks before their next challenge: the P2 of Newgiza, where they will be directly integrated into the final table.
