Alejandra Alonso and Andrea Ustero won their first title together at the FIP Platinum Puebla 2024. A success in Mexico which confirms their rise. In the men's race, Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso follow up with a new victory after their victory in Paredes. A look back at these finals.
Andrea Ustero, a title that brings her closer to the Top 10
Alejandra Alonso and Andrea Ustero have long been tipped as future world number ones. Yesterday, they took a new step in their careers by winning their first title together on the international circuit.
The young Spanish women won the final of the FIP Platinum Puebla, in Mexico, beating Noa Cánovas and Jimena Velasco with a score of 2:00. 6-4 / 6-0. For Alonso, this trophy had a sense of déjà vu: she had already lifted a title in this category on the FIP Tour last year, but alongside Lucía Sainz. This time, it is with the other half of “Las Turkis”, Andrea Ustero, that she triumphs.
The Barcelona player, who had already reached the final of the Greenweez Paris Major 2023 alongside Delfi Brea, adds another line to his list of achievements. “We played at an incredible level all week,” Ustero reacted. “Congratulations to Noa and Jime, with whom we are friends, and especially to Ale, the real MVP of this final.”
Alonso, for her part, is pleased with her Mexican success: “Mexico brings me luck!” With the points won in Puebla, she ensures her qualification for the Barcelona Finals, thus joining Ustero.
Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso continue
In the men's competition, Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso confirmed their current form with a second victory in three weeks. After their success in the FIP Gold of Paredes, they also offer the FIP Platinum of Puebla.
The men's final was more closely contested but ended abruptly due to an ankle injury to Alonso Rodríguez. Alongside the young Juani Rubini, he had nevertheless managed to captivate the public of the Padel State, who came in large numbers to attend the show.
"We are living an exceptional moment and we want to enjoy it," said the winners. "A big support to Alonso, we wish him a speedy recovery."
