There was some damage on the Barcelona side, with the elimination of nine Frenchmen on the twelve entered during the first round. We know that competitions in Spain are never easy and the French players have paid the price.
There are therefore no more French people in the men's draw and three French women still in the running for the women!
Male side:
Julien Seurin et Adrien Maigret were unable to do anything against the 1st seed of the tournament: Perino (44) / Garcia (80). The two Frenchmen were not helped by the draw and left Catalonia in the first round, 6/4 6/2.
Manu Vives and her partner Dorta Diaz had no better luck, facing the 6 seed Mena (83) / Marques (140). Here again, the Frenchman and his teammate were severely swept aside: 6/3 6/2.
Finally, Thomas Vanbauce et Maxime Joris did not go far from the second round against Tasa Van Beek (186) / Moragues (347). After losing the first set, the two Frenchmen reacted well by winning the second. Unfortunately, they couldn't do anything in the deciding set. Defeat 6/7 6/4 2/6.
Women's side:
Marianne Vandaele et Amelie Detriviere, out of qualifying, had a chance to play in their meeting. However, the wild card Mesa (543) / Vazquez (924) was able to better manage the two tie-breaks of this meeting. Defeat 6/7 6/7 for the French pair.
Wendy Barsotti et Elodie Invernon, opposed to the pair Betz (134) / Fernandes (108), did not manage to bring down their opponents. Despite a nice match, the 100% French duo lost 6/3 6/4.
However, Lucile Pothier et Charlotte Soubrié fared well in their meeting against the Spaniards Azcoitia (180) / Elliot (236). It took three sets for the French pair to defeat their opponents, in a very close encounter: 6/2 4/6 6/3.
Finally, Jessica Ginier and her Belgian partner Helena Wyckaert easily reached the second round, after their very serious victory against the Spaniards Cossio (178) / Santamaria (228). They continued the competition by winning 6/2 6/3, enough to give them great confidence for the rest of the tournament!
Today, the pair Pothier/Soubrie will have a lot to do against the 7th seed, Amanda Girdo (107) and Ana Varo Ramos (80). They will play in the third rotation of the morning, around 12:30-13 p.m.
For their part, the duo Ginier/Wyckaert will meet Alba Perez Momha (103) and Lucia Garcia Trella (96), ninth pair of this FIP Rise. They will enter the track in the second rotation of the day, around 11:30 p.m.
It was her brother who one day told her to accompany him to a padel court, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the retransmission of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
