After three victories in three sets, Charlotte Soubrié et Fiona Ligi saw their great journey end this afternoon in the semi-final of the FIP Rise in Malaga. The French fell against the Spanish Aimara Pozuelo Dominguez et Valeria Atencia Basilio in two sets: 6/3 – 7/5.

A small opportunity in the first round

The French women, however, are well back in their game, thanks in particular to the confidence accumulated this week in Andalusia. They got a break point on a point of gold at 2/2, well saved by the Iberian players. The latter then accelerated to make the break in stride and managed to keep it until the end of the first set (6/3).

In the second set, Pozuelo and Atencia continued to race in the lead by taking the Blue serve to lead 2/1, then 3/2. The French avoided the penalty by winning a decisive point at 4/2 against them on their commitment. It was then that the game became balanced between the four players.

A tense end to the match

Soubrié and Ligi brought the score back to 4/4 on a new gold point. However, they dropped their serve again and found themselves one game away from defeat. The Tricolores didn't give up and once again took the opposing throw-in to equalize at 5/5. Frustrated by a decision by the referee at 15/30, they again lost their entry, at the end of which Fiona Ligi would receive a warning. This sounded the death knell for Les Bleues who, despite a good attitude until the end, lost 6/3 – 7/5 in 1h22.

It is under the last cries of celebration from the Spaniards that Charlotte Soubrié and Fiona Ligi leave the FIP Rise in Malaga after a very beautiful journey on Andalusian soil!
