Léa Godallier and Laura Luján Rodriguez came close to winning their first title together, but the bar was too high this Sunday in Portugal. Facing off against number one seeds Jimena Velasco and Noa Cánovas, the Franco-Spanish team lost in two sets: 6 / 1 6 / 4.
A final dominated by the favorites
From the start of the match, the Spanish pair set a blistering pace. Impeccable in their coverage of the court, Velasco and Cánovas quickly gained the upper hand. “They were 15 times stronger. There's no debate,” Léa confided after the match.
On the court, Jimena Velasco was omnipresent. “She did everything well.” Despite some tactical adjustments to try to bring her partner into the game, the plan wasn’t enough: “I tried to play a little more parallel so Laura could get more touches.”
A match revealing the areas of work
Godallier is not looking for excuses: “Today, I still lacked a bit of reference points, a bit of comfort. And above all, when my partner cannot get into the middle, we are quickly neutralized.” If the defeat is clear, it serves as a developer : “This match shows me how much I still have to work on.”
A great week despite everything
However, we shouldn't throw everything away: before this final, Léa and Laura had had a superb run, including victories against the tournament's third and second seeds. "I'm not going to throw away everything that was done in the previous four matches," says Léa, who wants keep the positive.
Heading for Italy
From next week, The Frenchwoman will be back on the pitch in Italy for a new tournament, the FIP Silver Perugia.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
