  • Description of the club and equipment

Located in a green setting on a land area of around 80 ares, the Tennis & Padel of the Association Sportive d'Électricité de Strasbourg has been established since 1974 in the Montagne Verte district, in the heart of the city of Strasbourg.

Our facilities are made up of:

  • 6 tennis courts (2 indoor and 4 outdoor), all lit
  • From a land of Padel illuminated exterior
  • From a building called a "club house"
  • An outdoor area with greenery, pergola and garden shed

Building of about 200 m² with roof covered with photovoltaic panels, it includes:

  • The club house, room with a capacity of around 50 people, with bar and kitchen
  • Ladies and Gentlemen's changing rooms and toilets
  • An administrative office
  • A workshop

The 2 courts covered in greenset is located in a room (not insulated and not heated) with roof covered with photovoltaic panels. They are lit and the playing surface was redone in 2012.

The outdoor courts, all lit, consist of 2 courts in porous concrete (renovated in 2017) and 2 courts in synthetic grass (date from 2009).

  • Project Padel

As the new President of the Tennis Association of the Electricity Sport Association since October 2018, I wanted to develop the activity Padel by building a first site on our facilities. Indeed, it was important to us to continue and complete in spring 2019 the project initiated by the former management team, and more particularly by our former President.

Today we can only share certain implacable observations:

  • Sport has become a consumer good and it is increasingly difficult to meet the requirements of this category of consumers
  • The loss of speed and attractiveness of tennis in general and therefore the need to question and find new avenues for development, in order to review the number of licensees going up and reaching a financial balance stable

This is why Padel seems to us to be a discipline of the future:

  • It is a more fun activity and easier to understand for beginners
  • We are seeing a significant increase in demand from our licensees to develop this sport
  • The French Tennis Federation has made the development of Padel one of his priorities
  • It is an additional possibility to introduce our club and our facilities
  • It is a success in the neighboring clubs which have launched

Within our Tennis licensees we have more and more practitioners of Padel (who play either in other clubs or in private structures) and the demand for the development of this activity internally is increasingly strong. This confirms the strategic direction taken by the French Tennis Federation which made the development of the Padel one of its priorities. In addition, we are fortunate to have among our ranks, in the person of our coach DE, one of the best players of Padel Alsatian, who will be extremely driving in the perspective of developing this discipline.

This is why it was decided, in view of the necessary budgetary envelope, to build initially only one land of Padel. If in the future, the hoped-for “boom” were to take place, a project to build a second site could well see the light of day (see site plan above).

The project for the establishment of a first Padel on our facilities takes the following form:

  • Daily use of this equipment

Concerning the use of the land of Padel, it is obviously made available in 1er place of members who only practice Padel or members who play tennis with the Padel optional. They can, as with tennis courts, book it online and come and play.

In order to introduce the discipline to those who do not yet know it, it is planned:

  • To set up ½ days of initiation with free access for club members and external
  • Organize discovery days with the sports committee of our works council
  • To promote the Padel during "open days" and during the Tennis festival
  • To be able to have lessons, individual or group, by our coach DE
  • Organize a friendly tournament

Concerning the organization of an official tournament, it would seem that it is not possible to do it as long as the club does not have 2 courts, which is our case for the moment.

  • Development prospects

At the end of the implementation of the project, the club sets itself as a primary objective an increase of 10 to 15% in its number of licensees. If ever the demand really increases and the need for a second short is felt, this project will be launched, the physical location being already available, all that remains is to find a financing plan!

Finally, an increase in the hours of our DE trainer could even be considered if the latter were to officially teach the Padel, once the federal trainings are in place.
