Sometimes ideas are tenacious! Many racket sports fans have declared that tennis player Gaël Monfils is the World Padel Champion.

Although the Frenchman is indeed very gifted with any racket, he has never been World Padel Champion, has never been a professional padel player, and has not yet regularly competed on the French circuit, although he has already made a few appearances, notably in Lyon.

On the other hand, Gaël Monfils was World Champion of paddle tennis, a sport mainly practiced in the United States and which has nothing to do with padel (despite some similarities). In 2006, after being eliminated in a tennis tournament in Las Vegas, Gaël Monfils participated in the World Paddle Tennis Championship and won!

However, this has nothing to do with padel. In fact, paddle tennis is a sport that is played on a smaller court but without walls and can be played 1 on 1. A kind of mini-tennis then!
