The men's final of the  Gijón Premier Padel P2  once again pitted the two best pairs in the world against each other:  Agustín Tapia / Arturo Coello (n°1)  face  Alejandro Galán / Federico Chingotto (n°2) .

At the end of a hotly contested match,  Galán and Chingotto win 7/5 7/6  and put an end to a series of  four consecutive defeats in the final against the world number 1 .

 A perfectly controlled first set

The start of the match is very balanced. Both pairs easily hold their service games and the rallies are intense.

But gradually,  Galán and Chingotto gain the tactical advantage Chingotto manages to maintain  Coello at the back of the court , While  Galán accelerates and makes a huge difference at the net and with his smash .

À  5/5 The world number 2s strike at the best moment and achieve the  decisive break Very solid defensively, they finished off the set.  7/5 .

The statistics illustrate their dominance:

  •  0 break points earned by Tapia / Coello
  •  20 unforced errors for the number 1 , against  11 for Galán / Chingotto

A very solid first set from the Argentinian and the Spaniard.

A decisive tie-break in the second set

The second set remained just as close. Tapia and Coello raised their game and managed to  breaker at 3/2 , notably thanks to a better presence at the net.

But Galán and Chingotto do not separate and  break up immediately confirming their excellent mental strength.

The set is finally played at  tie-breaker and this time the world number 2s quickly took the lead to win  7-3  in the deciding game.

Final score:  7 / 5 7 / 6 .

An XXL Galán and an imperial Chingotto

In this final,  Alejandro Galán was the great man of the match . Ultra dominant at the net and very effective in smashing, he constantly put the number 1 pair under pressure.

By his side,  Federico Chingotto delivered a very solid performance. , leaving no easy balls and managing to push Coello back to the baseline.

His tactic of  Viboras towards the grid to bother Coello which was already used at the end of last season, worked perfectly again.

 The details made the difference

Tapia and Coello didn't have a bad game, but they were  less precise than usual in important moments .

The numbers speak for themselves:

  •  3 break points earned (1 converted)  for the n°1
  •  6 break points earned (2 converted)  for Galán / Chingotto
  •  37 unforced errors  for Tapia / Coello against  25 for their opponents

Details that turned the tide of the final.

An important victory for the season

With this title,  Galán and Chingotto have now reached 10 wins in their head-to-head matches. , against  21 for Tapia and Coello .

This victory also allows Alejandro Galán to  to equal Tapia's record for career titles (54) .

It marks a turning point in this early part of the season. After Tapia/Coello's victory at  Riyadh P1 , the two pairs are now  tied with one title each in 2026 .

Thanks to this success,  Galán and Chingotto pocket 600 FIP points , a significant gain in the rankings because they pocket them outright; indeed, the top players had boycotted the  Gijón P2.

 See you in Cancun

The two pairs should meet again very soon on the track. Next meeting in  two weeks in Cancún P2 , where Galán and Chingotto will attempt to  confirm this victory and reduce the gap in the world rankings .

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
