City Gijón could host a stage of the Premier Padel this season. According to municipal sources and “New Spain” Advanced negotiations are underway to organize the first event of the circuit in Spain, scheduled for February 24 to March 2, 2025.

The event would be held at La Guía Sports Palace, an infrastructure already tested during theATP Gijon Open tennis in 2022 as well as padel tournaments, thus strengthening its candidacy as an ideal venue for a tournament of this magnitude.

A strategic step for the calendar Premier Padel

In the provisional calendar announced by Premier Padel, several Spanish cities such as Madrid, Barcelona or Valladolid are already on the program. However, two other events have yet to confirm their locations, including a P2 stage in February and a P1 stage scheduled from April 28 to May 4. If Gijón is selected, it would be the only city in northern Spain to host a competition of this circuit in 2025.

Economic and sporting benefits for Gijón

According to local authorities, the organization of this stage would have a positive impact on the region, both economically and sportingly. The choice of dates, in the low tourist season and probably in parallel with the festivities of theAntroxu, would boost the service sector and attract visitors. For reference, the ATP Gijón Open generated more than 7 million euros in local economic benefits.

The La Guía Sports Palace and the hotel infrastructure of Asturias are considered adequate to host the best players in the world.

An imminent decision

The final decision on this stage is expected to be announced soon. If it is confirmed, Gijón will join an international calendar that will then pass through cities such as Cancun or Miami.

I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
