Le Premier Padel P2 of Gijón crowned an unexpected pair in the men's category. At just 17 and 18 years, Francisco “Curro” Cabeza et Diego Garcia made history by becoming the youngest team to win the Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour. In front of a Guia Sports Palace To top it all off, the two Spaniards showed maturity to secure their first title against the “Magicos” Tolito Aguirre and Gonza Alfonso.

The match opened with a hard-fought first set, won 7-5 by young Spaniards, thanks in particular to a Garcia's spectacular X3 on set point. The Argentines responded by equalizing with a 6-4 in the second round, but the last word went to Cabeza and Garcia, who found the decisive opening at 5-3 in the third set to win 7-5 4-6 6-3.

“I am so happy to have lived this week, I thank everyone”, Garcia confided, moved by this victory. His teammate Curro Cabeza, crowned junior world champion in 2023, stressed the difficulty of the match: “It was a very complicated match, but we managed to win”.

Triay and Brea prevail after stunning final

In the women's final, the scenario was stunning. Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, determined to challenge the supremacy of Paula Josemaría and Ari Sánchez, won their second trophy of the season after their success at Riyadh.

Facing a well-established team, they had a difficult start to the match, conceding a severe 0-6 in the first set. But far from being defeated, the number 2 seeds regained control with a 6-1 in the second set. The turning point came in the ninth game of the third setWhen Brea scored a decisive X4, sealing the victory with a score of 0-6 6-1 6-4.

“It wasn't easy after such a first set, but I congratulate Gemma and our whole team”, Brea responded. “Thank you Gijón, it was a fantastic week”, added Triay, who is climbing the third place in the world ranking.

Heading for Mexico

Le Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour will continue its season from 10 at 16 March with the P2 in Cancun, Mexico. Upstream, the players will have an appointment with the FIP Platinum of Puebla, also held on Mexican soil.
