Léa Godallier and Daiara Valenzuela will not see the round of 16 of the Bordeaux P2. Facing Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga, the 10th seed, the Frenchwoman and the Argentinian lost in two sets (6/3 7/5), at the end of a match where they may have some regrets, especially in the second set.

With the particularly slow playing conditions in this Bordeaux P2 match, constructing winning points was a real challenge. Even Carmen Goenaga, renowned for the power of her smash, struggled to get the ball out of bounds. But the Spaniard was able to showcase her other strengths at the crucial moment.

A one-way first round

Léa Godallier took some time to get into her match. Struggling at the net, with several uncharacteristic unforced errors, the French number 2 never found her rhythm in this first set.

On the other side, Bea Caldera perfectly controlled the rallies, varying her shots and imposing her tempo. Without needing to do much, Carmen Goenaga simply finished off the important points when the opportunity arose.

As a result, the Spanish pair logically took the first set 6/3, without any real scare.

A second set that leaves room for regrets

The face of Godallier and Valenzuela changes completely. More aggressive, the Franco-Argentine pair breaks early and Daiara Valenzuela starts to cause Carmen Goenaga a lot of trouble on the left diagonal.

Although this first break is quickly erased, Godallier and Valenzuela get back on the front foot and break back at 4/3. With the possibility of leading 5/3, they then have a great opportunity to pull away.

But they fail to confirm this advantage.

This missed opportunity completely revitalized the Spanish team. Carmen Goenaga then significantly raised her level of play. The world number 17 put more power into her viboras and gradually gained the upper hand over Valenzuela in the rallies.

At the best moment for her team, she contributed to another decisive break which allowed Caldera and Goenaga to close out the match 6/3 7/5.

Godallier and Valenzuela fall with honor, Collombon remains the last Frenchwoman in contention

Reasons for hope despite the elimination

This defeat will inevitably leave some regrets for the recent  Narbonne FIP Silver champions who showed a completely different side in the second set and had opportunities to push their opponents into a third set.

With this elimination of Léa Godallier,  Alix Collombon remains the last French representative in the running  in the women's table of Bordeaux P2.
