The step was too high for Thomas Leygue and Ignacio Piotto facing Xisco Gil and JuanLu Esbri, seeded 15th in the Greenweez Paris Major. However, the Franco-Argentine pair made the French public dream with a first set of high quality finally lost in the tie-break.
Like two years ago, Thomas Leygue stops at the gates of the 16th finals, having offered great things on the Philippe Chatrier.
Some good, some not so good… but there’s something to answer for!
There were some great things offered by Thomas Leygue and Ignacio Piotto in this first set. Great defensive shots, great smashes and above all, a real desire to create the feat against a pair playing their first tournament together.
However, what was crucial in this first round:a precipitation. Sometimes, the Franco-Argentine pair may have wanted to play too quickly, which penalized them on the scoreboard. Especially since Thomas and Ignacio had the break in their pocket, from the first game.
The wildcards were still valiant in this first round, saving several set points at 5/2… then at 5/3 before finally getting back to 5/4, to return to 5/5.
It was in the deciding game that the gap finally widened. 7/3 to the advantage of Gil / Esbri and a first set to the advantage of the Spaniards!
A blow of the club
As is often the case in padel, Losing the first set 7/6 hurt to the Franco-Argentine pair. Frustrated, disappointed, the duo had more difficulty putting their game in place. Obviously, Xisco Gil and JuanLu Esbri took advantage of this to take off in quickly leading 4/0 on the notice board.
Thomas Leygue and Ignacio Piotto avoided the 6/0, but did not manage to offer themselves a remontada in this second round, as was the case in the first.
Final score : 7/6(3) 6/2.
There are still four French players in the Greenweez Paris Major: two in the men's category, two in the women's category. They will all play on Wednesday, October 2. Find the full program here :
It was her brother who one day told her to accompany him to a padel court, since then, Gwenaëlle has never left the court. Except when it comes to going to watch the retransmission of Padel Magazine, World Padel Tour… or Premier Padel…or the French Championships. In short, she is a fan of this sport.
