The famous presenter of Canal Football Club, Hervé Mathoux, was present during the first edition of the Personalities Trophy, organized by Lagardère Paris Racing and the Imagine Institute, and he was not far from creating a sensation.

How did you discover padel?

"We hear a lot about it. When you work in the world of sport in general, everyone plays padel. It's quite accessible, fun, and the reflexes come naturally.”

"It was explained to me that the one who finishes the points plays on the left and the one who runs the furthest plays on the right. Unfortunately, I'm not very good and I don't run a lot, a position in the middle would have to be invented for me. Honestly, I don't have a preference, I usually say to my partner "I'm bad on the left, bad on the right, stand wherever you want!" ". When I have someone who is good, he plays on the left and I try to play on the right.”

There are two Canal+ teams for the tournament, what are your ambitions?

"The ambition is quite low, but to everyone's surprise, we are still in the race. The goal is to have a good time, to have fun, to laugh, and that's what this sport allows. I find that you have fun quite quickly in padel. I'm still a beginner, I think I've played about ten times. I'm starting to get into it and it's true that it's quite addictive."

A victory at the end of the suspense against Cyril Hanouna

"We were playing against Cyril who is an excellent player, we thought the adventure was over for us, but the advantage in padel is that in doubles, you can bet on the slightly less good player. It came down to nothing, we won 15/14.”

Who are the best players on Canal+?

"Florent Sinama-Pongolle is very good, just like Robert Pires and Christophe Jallet… All people who have a little free time, ultimately. Journalists are less good because they work more (laughs). Overall, there are very good players. And we all know that: former athletes, as soon as they hit something, they do really well, they leave one step ahead."

The possibility of an “At the Microphone Padel » on Canal+?

"Why not, we already have internal tournaments, we will think about the concept.”

Hervé Mathoux and his partner Julien Brun had a good tournament but fell short of the podium. During the small final, they lost against Thierry Omeyer and Yohan Huget.

Vincent Gallie

A fan of oval ball, round ball and also racket sports, he was bitten by padel during his adolescence in Galicia. As comfortable in front of the camera as behind a microphone, Vince will be able to bring his vision and expertise as a passionate fan of the little yellow ball.
