French National Interclub Championships 2 have reignited a debate: Should multiple teams from the same club be allowed in National 1?
This season, the question arose in a very concrete way. Big padel won the National 2, but the club already has a team in national 1 Result: despite its title, the team cannot be promoted and the place goes to the next teams in the standings.
This situation raises questions: Is the current rule the right one, or does it need to be adapted?
Why keep only one team per club in National 1?
The current system has several advantages.
First, he guarantees a diversity of clubs at the highest level If several teams from the same club could access National 1, some very powerful clubs could monopolize the places.
The current format therefore allows:
- having more clubs represented at the highest level,
- de distribute the teams across the entire territory ,
- and to prevent the competition from being dominated by some large structures .
This also allows smaller clubs to dreaming of reaching National 1 .
The limitations of the current system
But this rule also has its drawbacks.
It can prevent certain teams sportingly deserving to rise. That's exactly what happened this year: Big Padel wins the National 2 but cannot access the higher level .
Another point raised: in the very big clubs, some players have the level required to play in National 1 , but remain stuck in team 2 behind even stronger players.
As a result, these players continue to play in Nationale 2 when they could raise the level of National 1 .
An open debate
Between territorial equity et sporting merit The debate remains open.
Should we:
- keep only one team per club in National 1 to preserve the diversity of clubs?
- ou allow multiple teams so that the best teams can move up in sporting terms?
I discovered padel directly during a tournament, and frankly, I didn't really like it at first. But the second time, it was love at first sight, and since then, I haven't missed a single match. I'm even ready to stay up until 3am to watch a final of Premier Padel !
