Back on the live interview on Instagram of Jean-Michel Pequery, mental coach and current 17th in the ranking of padel of the French Tennis Federation.

Here is a summary of the live Podcast of the FACE-à-FACE program produced on April 08, 2020 at 18 p.m. on the Instagram page.

  • On his schedule during confinement:

I continue to work a lot with the players. I play school teacher with my son, I also play sports with him. The days are busy!

  • On the discourse he can have with his players on the possibility of resuming the World Padel Tour

I tell them to prepare, of course, but I tell them to take care of them first. The important thing is that they do things to feel good. I will advise them to get closer to their sport when the recovery is effective.

  • On the visualization

The brain does not differentiate between real and false. Visualization is very simple, just close your eyes and project yourself to a game. We imagine ourselves on the ground hitting balls. We focus on the sensations, 20-30 minutes. It's very interesting.

  • On his tennis history

I played tennis for 20 years, I arrived around the 200th place of ATP, 25th French. I was on the fly. I don't have too many regrets. I realized the usefulness of mental preparation in the last 3-4 years of my career, it did me a lot of good, and I ended up making it my job.

  • On French tennis

Unfortunately, the last generation of French tennis players was very strong, they really didn't have a chance to fall at the same time as Nadal, Federer and Djokovic. Without that, players like Tsonga or Monfils would have won Grand Chelem.

  • About Benoît Paire

To coach he has to want to, he may have already tried things, we don't know. If I worked with him I wouldn't necessarily do better than what he is already doing today. Everyone talks about it when he breaks a racket, but we forget all the games he can win. I cannot accept being said that he is mentally ineffective when he breaks rackets.

  • On the possibility of him becoming coach of the France team of padel

I am passionate about padel and ready to get involved. I would like to bring my skills to professional players who need support. I think that today the France team has good results especially thanks to all the players who are moving to professionalize. I applied to be captain but not just to be with them one week a year, it was to follow them on the tournaments of World Padel Tour, where they don't always have great results.

  • On his non-presence as a player in the list of the French team rally

I had had Alexis Salles on the phone and I understood that I was on the list. When it appeared I noticed that I was not there, I was amazed. We misunderstood each other, it's amazing, especially considering my work which is very much based on communication.

  • On the cancellation of the French championships

Either the FFT has information that we do not have, and in fact we will remain confined until August, and there indeed, we cannot do it. Otherwise I do not understand why we do not do everything to save the French Championships. I think we could very well try to make the qualifications in July or August. The World Padel Tour postpone, and we cancel, I'm disappointed.
