This Sunday was held the final of the APT Simsa Torreon and it is the pair Tolito - Restivo which caused a sensation by creating the surprise during their victory against the numbers 1 Arce - Del Blanco

On the occasion of this competition on Mexican soil, one of our French well-known on the circuit spoke about this event, the playing conditions and the enthusiasm of this sport in this beautiful Central American country.

Special playing conditions

The competition was played in Torreon, a city in northern Mexico, located 1m above sea level.

The dry climate, the high temperatures in the middle of the afternoon and the altitude made the tournament organizers decide to play the matches with non-pressurized balls.

As the Scat explained to us, it was very complicated to get the ball out of the field, the exchanges lasted and the points were necessarily longer.

“You have to be patient, lob, not rush to the net. It's a bit the opposite of the usual conditions, you have to manage to adapt so that the physique can hold throughout the game. It's a tournament more mental and physical than purely padel. " Jérémy explained to us.

The Frenchman also returned to his feelings of the game during the first match: ”I started the competition without much illusion because I didn't think the conditions would suit me and in the end after our victory in the first match I started to believe it. ”

For his first tournament alongside Santiago Rolla, Jeremy Scatena will have clearly made a good copy. And according to the Mexican atmosphere, it was no stranger to it.

Mexico vibrates for the padel

Although Spain is the Mecca of padel and Argentina, a breeding ground for young talents, remember that this sport was born in Mexico, in Accapulco. And that is why the Mexican people have a true love for this discipline.

As “the Scat” told us: ” in the evening there are at least 400 people in the club to come and watch the matches, it's just madness. The central field sees a lot of spectators pass by and the padelmania affects the whole country. The craze for padel in Mexico is amazing. There are no less than 150 plots in the city of Torreon. ”

It does not surprise us that some Latin American players of the APT have taken up residence there (Tolito Aguirre, Matias Almada…).
