Freshly won the Rocafort / Gaspar pair, Jérémy Scatena gave us an interview relating his point of view on his performance of the day and his expectations for the match that awaits him tomorrow on this Italy Major Premier Padel.

“I took my responsibilities”

Padel Magazine : This victory, what does it mean for you?

Jérémy Scatena : “It's an important victory, on a lot of points for me. First there is the whole ranking aspect, and it is sure that it is a boost for my objective. Now, beyond that, it's above all that I haven't been able to win a match for a very long time without necessarily playing very well, without necessarily being stronger than the others, but on the other hand mentally I have really played a big game. I'm quite proud of that, I held on from the first to the last point. I was a real fighter, and I think I was stronger in the important moments. I took my responsibilities today, already when I do that and I lose I'm still proud of myself but when I win it's even better. It was the important aspect of this match, and I hope that tomorrow I will play even better and that I will put the same ingredients at the mental level. “

Padel Magazine : In your ranking of the best victories, where would you place it?

Jérémy Scatena : “This victory is a great victory, but it's not one of my greatest victories. That's for sure because with Ben we won quite a few, so I would say in the top 10 probably. But hey, I had already beaten Gaspar/Zapata who were stronger, Toni Bueno and other players... But it's sure that in terms of importance for me, getting into the table of a Major of Premier Padel, for sure it's a big victory and in terms of emotions it's been a long time since I won a big game. So of course it makes me happy. “

“I am a special player”

Padel Magazine : We remember that not so long ago, you were in trouble. And it feels like you're back like never before. What was the trigger?

Jérémy Scatena : “I've been struggling for more than a year, because I'm a particular player. I need to have clear objectives and to know where I'm going, why, how… The fact that there is this new circuit is super clear and that's what I want to do with my life! The fact also that I have a fixed partner, even if there I played with Sergio Icardo. Being reassured and knowing that I'm going to have a fixed partner throughout the year playing with Mercadal, sure makes me feel good. It makes me get up in the morning with a clear goal: to be stronger in my game! “

Padel Magazine : For Sergio Icardo, tell us your story with him. He's a player you know well, why didn't you play with him earlier? Is it also a surprise and a superb victory for him?

Jérémy Scatena : “With Sergio we played the APT a bit, it didn't go well in terms of human relations. There on this tournament, he was really great with me, in terms of attitude. I think that in this last game, it was me who saved his buttocks a bit. Especially in the difficult moments, when I went to see him at 2-2 when we were down 0-40. I made a bet with him, I told him “I bet everything you want that if we go back 0-40, we will win the match”. We came back 0-40 and we won the match, so it's really on little things like that that I was very strong today. And not necessarily padel, I made a lot of mistakes and I didn't defend very well. But lo and behold, I offered them a big fight and that's what made the difference in the end.”

Padel Magazine : Your next match: do you have a plan with your partner? How will you approach this match against Sager Nagel / Ortega?

Jérémy Scatena : “The big advantage on the next game is that what we have to do is super clear. We have a player on the right who defends quite a bit and who is not very aggressive, and a player on the left who throws wood and hits very hard. He is the former partner of Thomas Leygue, he is very talented. We will have to attack on the big one I think and defend on the smaller one. It's classic in the padel ! "
