The  Taranto Mediterranean Games  will crown their first padel champions this Friday, August 28th. After the semi-finals played on Thursday, the matchups are now set:  Spain will face Italy in the men's competition , while the women's title is already guaranteed to go to Spain.

Gala and Diestro face off against Abbate and Montiel for the gold

In the men's table,  David Gala and José Antonio Diestro  secured their place in the final after a hard-fought match against the Portuguese  Nuno and Miguel Deus .

The Spanish team won.  7 / 5 7 / 5 Making the difference at the end of each set. At 5-5 in both sets, Gala and Diestro managed to accelerate to avoid tiebreaks.

They will face the Italians in the final.  Flavio Abbate and Álvaro Montiel .

In an all-Italian semi-final, Abbate and Montiel dominated  Marco Cassetta and Simone Iacovino 7/6 6/1 Despite being down 4-1 in the first set, they turned the situation around before taking a commanding lead in the second set.

The men's final  Gala / Diestro – Abbate / Montiel  is programmed  not before 19 p.m. .

For the bronze, the Portuguese  Nuno and Miguel Deus  will face  Cassetta and Iacovino .

Spain already guaranteed to win gold in the women's competition

In the women's competition, there will be no duel between nations in the final since  Four Spanish women will compete for the gold medal. .

The experienced ones  Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno  eliminated the Italians  Carolina Orsi and Giorgia Marchetti 6/3 6/4 .

In the other semi-final,  Jimena Velasco and Nuria Rodriguez  were even more expeditious against the Portuguese  Sofia Araújo and Ana Catarina Nogueira , with a victory  6 / 2 6 / 1 .

Spain is therefore already guaranteed to win the  first women's gold medal in padel history at the Mediterranean Games .

The final will be between  Sainz / Llaguno to Velasco / Rodríguez .

All the medals distributed this Friday

This Friday, August 28th will mark the last day of padel in Taranto, with the bronze medals followed by the three finals.

The matches for third place will open the day in the men's, women's and mixed draws.

From  17 hrs Now for the finals. The mixed doubles title will be contested between the Italians.  Marco Cassetta / Giulia Dal Pozzo  and the Portuguese  Pedro and Sofia Araújo .

The women's final will follow.  Sainz / Llaguno – Velasco / Rodríguez , before the final event of these Mediterranean Games:  Gala / Diestro – Abbate / Montiel , not before 19pm, for the men's gold medal.

A final day where  Spain could achieve a significant medal haul. , while Italy will notably try to block his path in the men's final.
