The level is going to rise significantly for the French at  Mediterranean Games of Taranto Having perfectly negotiated their entry into the competition,  Lucile Pothier / Louise Bahurel  et  Timéo Fonteny / Yoan Boronad  play their quarter-final this Tuesday, August 25th.

And in both cases, the French team will have to achieve a  big performance  to reach the final four: the Italian women  Carolina Orsi / Giorgia Marchetti  for the French women, then the Portuguese brothers  Nuno and Miguel Deus  for Fonteny / Boronad.

Pothier/Bahurel face off against two Italian benchmarks

 Lucile Pothier / Louise Bahurel (TS6)  will find  Carolina Orsi / Giorgia Marchetti (TS4) ,  not before 17pm on court 2 .

After their controlled victory against the Egyptians  Laila El Nimr / Moura Hakim (6/2 6/4) This time, the French women are going to change their approach.

 Carolina orsi , around the  30th place in the world , is now a regular on the circuit Premier Padel, with several round of 16 appearances to its credit.

By his side,  Giorgia Marchetti  is also going through one of the best periods of her career. The Italian is coming off a particularly strong run.  round of 32 at the London P1  and  eighth in Pretoria P1 .

The two players also have considerable experience playing together for Italy. They notably won  the gold medal at the European Games in Krakow in 2023 .

On paper, the Italian women will therefore start as favorites.  Pothier and Bahurel Both are outside the world's top 100; a qualification would represent a  huge performance  and would open the doors to the semi-finals for them.

Can Fonteny/Boronad take advantage of the more complicated period for the Deus brothers?

The challenge will be just as important for  Timéo Fonteny / Yoan Boronad (TS8)  face  Nuno and Miguel Deus (TS4) .

The meeting is scheduled for the  central court , following the women's match which will start at 17pm.

Winners  6 / 4 6 / 4  For their entry into the competition, the two young Frenchmen will now face a pair with much more experience on the international circuit.

The  Deus brothers  have long revolved around  world top 40  and were part of the Portuguese team that were runners-up at the European Championships in 2025. At their best, they are therefore still more than capable of competing with established pairs on the professional circuit.

But there may be an opening for the French.

 Miguel Deus returns from injury  and the two Portuguese players are still struggling to regain their former level. Now around the  100th place in the world They are no longer currently achieving the results they used to achieve.

They remain favorites in this quarter-final, but  Fonteny and Boronad may have an opening to exploit The two young French players will certainly have to put in a big performance, but this is a great opportunity to secure a landmark victory on the international stage.

Two matches to get closer to the medals

After a first round without a hitch, things really start to get serious for the French team in Taranto.

 Pothier / Bahurel facing Orsi / Marchetti then  Fonteny / Boronad versus the Deus brothers  : two matches where the French will not be favorites, but where they will have a real chance.

In case of victory, we'll head to...  final four of the Mediterranean Games , with a medal that would be getting seriously closer.
